Call It a Ponzi Scheme: Even during the Covid-19 crisis, colleges abuse their economic and reputational privileges.
City Journal ^ | April 10, 2020 | Heather MacDonald

...Higher education today resembles a massive Ponzi scheme. Colleges desperately recruit ever more marginal students who stand little chance of graduating. Before their inevitable withdrawal, those students’ tuition dollars fuel the growth of the bureaucracy, which creates the need to get an even larger pool of likely dropouts through the door to fund the latest round of administrative expansion. Administrative positions at colleges and universities grew at ten times the rate of tenured faculty positions from 1993 to 2009...By the 2013 school year, there were slightly more campus administrators nationwide than faculty...

College orientation weekend and scheduling advisors are paid to put you on a 6 year plan minimum. Good Luck by the time you figure out the scam it is too late.you need a priority scheduling date every semester from the get go so take summer courses as community college transfer credits.

Circa 1966 enrollment at NLSC was about 6000 students
The administration offices were 1/2 of one wing of the chemistry building. About 20 offices.

Circa 1975 same university but now called NLU had about 8500 students. Administration had their own building. It is 100 feet wide and 400 feet long and 3 stories.

That tells you all you need to know about educational bureaucracy and governmental bureaucracy.

Now that they don’t even require a pretense of an SAT, I can imagine what the quality will look like.
It’ll be a platform to fill up every entering class with each of the 57 genders, etc.

Great column. Like most of government, most colleges exist for no purpose beyond paying their employees.
