Like her neighbor to the west which, quips Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso, has been "socially distancing the entire 130 years that we have been a state" Republican Gov. Kristi Noem says she won't shut down South Dakota in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Noem argues South Dakota isn't New York City, and her job is to protect the right of the people to take responsibility and care for themselves and their neighbors.
Barrasso, a Republican, said Monday that Wyoming isn't ordering residents to stay home because social distancing already is occurring.
Wyoming has just five people per square mile and South Dakota has 11, while New York City has more than 27,000.

What a concept. People responsible for their safety. Who knew?
Look! A brain!

Beauty and the brain.
Oh, the nerve! They are probably even letting the gun stores stay open.
I was shocked to learn that. LOL!
Founding Fathers smiling.
Look we found a functioning brain.
Let’s see—a state with an extremely low population density does not see the need for strict social distancing policies.
I’m sure that if they developed some hot spots, they would become stricter. But for now, the only state that has lower Covid-19 case numbers is Alaska—another sparsely populated state.
What does this guy not understand about people being to stupid to protect themselves so the government must use draconian measures to do it for them?
There’s a recent outbreak in South Dakota. I wonder what Noem will do now.
How refreshing!!
Kudos to Kristi!
Is that what that “Thing” means, when it talks about “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”?
:) You know ... the “Thing”.
I think the virus passed though the country...maybe Started in November...
The doctors passed it of as the flu....???
We do not know how long it was floating around China before the doctor discovered it as Covid16..
Orlando gets 6 million visitors a month...why so few cases in Florida
I think my wife got it in late February....
Never thought a State like Wyoming would embrace an idea from a Socialist Democracy like Denmark but here we are. #;^)
I’d move there but it’s a bit chilly. But if this hysteria keeps going then I’ll have to get tough or die.
The cities and the counties get to do their thing.
I think my wife got it in late February....
I definitely had something towards the end of Feb. only symptom was two nights of extreme night sweats and fever/weakness. I havent had a cold in over 10 years, and this was a never before symptom. It was over as quick as it came on.
One size does not all fit, and unlike Andrew the Great she isn’t running a sanctuary or completely liberal State either.
Except of course for the international scam being run by Lutheran and Catholic Social Services that conveniently bypasses State Governments, placing so-called refugees all over the United States. I would question vehemently the vetting process any these so-called refugees undergo or more likely do not undergo.
This is a money scam of the highest order and should have been brought to a halt the moment it was hatched. At least two of the SD Covid 19 hot spots, are in cities that have received more than a few of those brought here by the two philanthropic agencies in question.
