Governor refuses to shut down state for coronavirus 'The people themselves are primarily responsible for their safety'

Like her neighbor to the west – which, quips Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso, has been "socially distancing the entire 130 years that we have been a state" – Republican Gov. Kristi Noem says she won't shut down South Dakota in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Noem argues South Dakota isn't New York City, and her job is to protect the right of the people to take responsibility and care for themselves and their neighbors.

Barrasso, a Republican, said Monday that Wyoming isn't ordering residents to stay home because social distancing already is occurring.

Wyoming has just five people per square mile and South Dakota has 11, while New York City has more than 27,000.

Well....if you peruse some older threads on FR, you’ll discover we have a boatload right here on FR that were demanding to be controlled...

They don't think they should be controlled, they think YOU should be controlled.

What is disconcerting is that despite confirmation that this Chinese Flu is slowing down as it runs its course, states and local communities are continuing to expand, not just maintain (which is in some areas understandable), their increasingly onerous restrictions to liberty.

There is still a segment of America and Americans who still believe in rugged individualism. Those who believe in state are slaves and at the mercy of state.

Iowa's governor, Kim Reynolds, is doing the same thing.

She's getting a ton of chit from the segment that wants to 'cower in place' but she's holding pretty solid.

That's pretty crowded by Alaska standards.

The point being I believe just cancelling mass gatherings, like sporting events, alone probably would have the same impact as total lockdowns.

Say, then, there would be triple the deaths if the almighty State were gracious enough to allow those sporting events. Instead of 400-odd marked dollar bills, make it 1200 odd.

You're a statist, aren't you? I mean, not on your lips, but in your heart of hearts.

Oh, don’t I know it. Have been “verbally” abused by some of ‘em.

“The doctors passed it of as the flu....???”
________________________________________________

My beloved husband and I were discussing this possibility yesterday. We both experienced what we considered the worst case of flu in our lives this past Dec/Jan. We joked we kept giving it to each other.

Well, actually, I accused him of bringing it home to me because he normally would not get ill for years and yet I would pick up any germ passing through the darn countryside.

This time, however, he got very sick and it took months for the both of us to get past the wanting-to-die stage of it. It was horrible. He just kept taking OTC stuff because he doesn’t like doctors and thought it was a relapse of something he caught decades ago while stationed in Germany. Me, I just assumed he was sharing germs. LOL

There was a period where I literally remember nothing short of going to the bathroom. He would just bring me liquids and what I could attempt to keep down.

I still have a cough and it’s troubling in that it’s the same cough I would have with my Cold Uticaria (Cold Allergy). I started wearing medical masks in January because whatever it was, I wasn’t going to pass it on to anyone. I cancelled so many appointments and visits to see people that it wasn’t funny.

Usually, I’m a card/letter writer. Since January 2020, not a single card/letter has been done. And now, for sure, there are no cards/letters going out. LOL

Once this situation gets a bit quieter I’ll be happy to be doing cards/letters once more!

Sorry about the rambling, Hojczyk.

Awww. You got me on that one!

Cheepers! That special class of Chicken Freeper who succumbed to hysteria and panic driven by their trust in experts and their desire for the loving protective embrace of government.

They showed that their desire for safety far exceeded their love of liberty. They seem have decided chains are preferable to risk.

You made the mistake of thinking Jesus’s kindness was weakness.

He wasn’t afraid to whip those who needed a whipping.

“ I’m sure that if they developed some hot spots,....”

It’s relative. Fewer residents mean that it doesn’t take a “hot spot” to cause a real disruption. I’m certain this reality has crossed their minds.

So what? When you consider how loosely the criteria is applied to classify a death a Corona death the numbers mean nothing. People die every year from communicable diseases and auto accidents. No one has the right to expect to live forever at the expense of our future generations. I would rather live at risk than live in fear and subjugation. If they were serious about saving lives they would stop tobacco sales and abortions. The only silver lining here is that Trump is taking this opportunity to revise our border laws, financial system and deregulating our healthcare industry. He’s using this time to accomplish his agenda while he uses the progressive forces as his pawns.
