He may have meant to note that the 2% number is from those tested and known to have it. That he mentions we don’t know how many have really had it would mean the number is far less. We can’t really know.

If true, by the time Covid burns through the population that means ~6.5mm dead Americans. I would say that’s very unlikely.
That's assuming everyone gets it which is unlikely. But if 50 million get it, which is the approximate number of people who get the flu, then the death rate would still be between 1.5 and 2 million. We won't know until we can test widely and we still can't do that.

Who knows? It’s practically a fact-free article. He says something and no one bothers to ask a clarifying question. Par for the course.
He might well have meant that 98% of people recover without even needing to see a doctor. In fact, that’s probably pretty close to true, but we don’t know because journalism has died in this country.
Actually they were okay for the defensive stage of the war. In war, when you are attacked, it should initiate three phases.
Phase one - organized defense to prevent being overwhelmed by the attacker.
Phase two - Organization of resources and establishment of logistics to sustain the war effort.
Phase three - Counter offensive to destroy the attackers ability to inflict further damage.
Fauci and Birx organized an effective defense. Pence and his team organized resources and logistics.
No one was put in charge of the counter offensive.
A military person should have been assigned this. The various weapons available (hydroxychloroquine, HiV drugs, transfusions, plasma therapy etc.) should have been deployed in a strategy driven offensive against the invader. Instead we have remained in a totally defensive posture, ergo Fauci and Birx at the forefront. Meanwhile doctors in the field and a few reactive universities have been limited to independent gorilla maneuvers to strike back at the invader.
Mr. President, WHY isn’t this brilliant man running the show instead of Fauci?

You have captured the weakness in the old liberal chestnut used to cram more insanity through congress and into out lives.
Except you left out those transferred to intensive care, those requiring more than 10 days of hospitalization etc etc. They are still not dead.
Its pretty impressive that in only 10 days, 91.7 % recovered. Most diseases and treatments require far more time than that.
