Surgeon General: Some Places May Be Ready to Reopen on May 1
Epoch Times ^ | 04/10/2020 | Zachary Steiber

Some places may be able to reopen at the beginning of May while others should remain under virtual lockdown, Surgeon General Jerome Adams said on April 10.

Asked whether reopening on May 1 was realistic, Adams said “some places” might be able to do so.

“There are places around the country that have seen consistently low levels and as we ramp up testing and can feel more confident that these places actually can do surveillance and can do public health follow-up, some places will be able to think about opening on May 1,” Adams said.

“Most of the country will not, to be honest with you, but some will. That’s how we’ll reopen the country: place by place, bit by bit, based on the data.”

The surgeon general, America’s top public health official, was speaking during an appearance on Fox News.

President Donald Trump is pushing to re-open parts of the country, noting that some areas and entire states have seen few cases of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, commonly known as the novel coronavirus. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Thursday there are a number of areas with low case counts where action could be taken while Larry Kudlow, another top White House economic official, said this week that the Trump administration wants to open the economy in the next four to eight weeks.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, a member of the White House coronavirus task force along with Adams, expressed caution about opening up during an appearance on CNN on Friday.

“We would want to see a clear indication that you were very, very clearly and strongly going in the right direction. Because the one thing you don’t want to do is you don’t want to get out there prematurely and you wind up back in the same situation,”

I can only hope.

Introverted types like me still need to go places and do things. The price of being responsible.

At least he said “some” rather than “none”. President Trump needs to call Governors from red states and get them open on May 1st.

I know the media will attack Trump no matter what. But whenever reopenings of various parts of the country and economy happen, there will still be new cases of the virus, and there will still be deaths attributed to same.

And the media and Democrats will launch a new narrative, that Trump re-opened the country too soon, that the virus is still spreading, etc. etc.

I have other concerns too. When the all clear is given, will people be too spooked to go places? Will people be afraid to go to sit in restaurants, movie theaters, stadiums, etc. ?? Will they be afraid to travel by airplane, packed in so tightly with others? Will fewer people go to places such as Disney theme parks, due to fears of being in big crowds? People’s reluctance to go places and spend money as they did previously, could well cause economic problems well into the future.

Maybe he meant population-wise? New York, Chicago, Detroit, etc.

It’ll take time, but things will slowly come back

It just isn’t in people’s nature to be recluses and hide in their houses all the time

People are sociable, people are curious about the outside world

But the relentless Big Media fearmongering has got to stop

I think maybe they’ll get another week of patience out of people before civil disobedience starts to run amok.

Like Martha MacCallum showing how far a sneeze travels in a grocery store or on the jogging path. It was so over the top that I sent her an email to stop the hysteria and the fear mongering.

If you are going to send emails there is only one that counts.

To Donald Trump.

Message: Fire Fauci NOW and open the country!

The deal was to give authorities time to husband resources to address the virus (bend the curve). Not to achieve zero infections or zero deaths. That would be impossible.
we do not have wide spread infections. we should open America with an eye on the vulnerable (following the guide) and now have the ability to quickly address the arising hot spots surround, isolate , and extinguish to a manageable level.
There is never a 100% safety guarantee

May 1st? We can't take another month of this.

Why does it seem that bureaucrats know nothing about the real world and how it works? But they think they can run our lives and our health care?

As President Trump has consistently emphasized, a strategy designed to safely reopen the nation’s economy will not involve a one-size-fits-all timeline. Texas, in large part to its advanced emergency management practices that have evolved from decades of practice dealing with major storm, fire, drought and hurricane events, has been able to weather this latest storm better than most.

Seems like the shut down was to prevent overwhelming the hospitals. That’s not happening and there are plenty of extra beds all over the country. Open up!

Yup. Goal was to prevent the health care system from collapsing. Mission Acvomplished. Trump however seems to have accepted the mission creep of preventing anyone from dying which is impossible.

Well I don’t know about others but I suspect real Texans won’t be afraid. As for our house we will put on our masks, wash our hands and live like free Americans again.
