A man has been arrested of destroying three Buddha statues on Sunday, 5 April, at Wat Lao Santitham, a Buddhist temple in the city of Fort Smith, Arkansas. Twenty-one-year-old Shawn Michael Israel was caught on police body cameras at the temple with a hammer in his hand. Israel is heard saying that the statues were a false idol . . . a false monument, and that he was doing what God told him to do through scripture. (40/29 News)
Police officers arriving at the scene reported seeing Israel beating on a gold Buddha statue, with a hammer, causing severe damage to it. (WWLP 22 News) Officers confronted Israel and arrested him on charges of criminal mischief in the first degree. Shawn Isreal as photographed during a previous arrest. Looks like something the folks at Isabel Bloom can reproduce easily. The budds could get the gold spray paint at wally world. Or find someone with a big 3d printer and go that route.
Or ditch the idols of gold, silver, stone, and the breathing ones of the sports/entertainment world, and glorify God in Spirit and in Truth.
Or how about you stop acting like you aren’t basically condoning this idiot’s vandalism?

As a good Catholic, I would have problems with that?
Sounds like he is off his meds.
Caucasian, 21, has the wild-eyed stare of our mass shooters, but at least only went crazy on a statue. Full-on cocoanut, though, for sure.
Ditch the idols of gold, silver, stone, and the breathing ones of the sports/entertainment world, and glorify God in Spirit and in Truth.
Ditto that.
Sounds like what the Taliban did in Afghanistan last time they were in power.
People don’t know how to mind their own business. Those folks are very unlikely to harm others.
Make the idiot that damaged them pay the insurance company back. Garnish his paycheck. After he gets out of jail, of course.
Neither do liberals unless it’s one of theirs.
The taliban and dems/progs/commies do have that in common.
**Or how about you stop acting like you arent basically condoning this idiots vandalism?**
I said nothing of the sort (Btw, I think you meant to say ‘are’, not ‘aren’t’.). I simply pointed out how cheaply such objects are in reality. Those appear to be painted concrete. They may even be available on amazone or ebaye.
Back in apostle Paul’s day the silversmiths made their living off of the idols that they made, and were offended by a no physical object enhanced religion. Their source of income was being threatened.
Paul offered a simpler way to praise God. It is also a way that tests your faith. If you need man made objects to help remind you that there is a God in heaven, then your mind is too occupied elsewhere, imo.
When God had the children of Israel make the ark of the covenant, the focal point was invisible: an open space above the mercy seat and between two angelic forms facing that open space. As the apostles said: No one has seen God at any time,...... not even Joe Smith.
I dont believe in Buddhism as a religion, but they are a peaceful bunch. Live and let live.
You are right, but criticizing someone’s property as cheap right after it has been vandalized is not the way to bring people to Christ.
You said their property is “cheap”, and maybe they need to ditch their religion.

“Or ditch the idols of gold, silver, stone, and the breathing ones of the sports/entertainment world, and glorify God in Spirit and in Truth.”
They are Buddhists (not “budds”), and their property isnt any more cheap to them than a Bible is to you, and they arent looking to become Christian.
That’s like some atheists saying, after some nut vandalizes a church, that the “stans” can eaisly get another Bible or cross from a Goodwill or learn to “stop worshiping an invisible dude in the clouds and embrace science”.
You knew what you were saying. That’s why I wasn’t the only one that saw it.

I made an observance. The objects were most likely painted concrete. Maybe they didn’t know that until the objects were damaged.
Do I approve of vandalism? No. Do I approve of destroying idols? I’m not a king Josiah.
Do I approve of constructive criticism? Yes. Paul did just that at Mars hill. He called the Athenians “too superstitious”, then went from there to devalue their idols, and witnessed of a real God.
They are false idols but its certainly not his place to do anything about it.
