In 60 cities in India, 16,876 tons of plastic waste are generated each day, according to data from the countrys Central Pollution Control Board. Multiply that by 365, and you have more than 6 million tons of plastic that end up in landfills a year.
Such figures were keeping Medha Tadpatrikar awake at night. She was also deeply troubled by an incident she had witnessed on a safari in India a deer choking on a plastic packet that it had swallowed. I realized how big this plastic problem is and how every creature on this earth is affected by it, she says of the incident.
So Dr. Tadpatrikar resolved to find a way to make plastic waste useful. She and Shirish Phadtare started experimenting in Tadpatrikars kitchen, trying to cook plastic in a pressure cooker to create a practical fuel. Plastic is made of crude oil, and we wanted to reverse the process to get usable oil, Tadpatrikar explains.
After lots of kitchen R&D, some trial and error, and help from engineer friends, this experimenting duo has come up with an operation in the Pune, India, area that benefits the environment in several ways. They are indeed producing fuel, using a process that doesnt emit toxic gases. And by pressing plastic waste into service, theyre reducing the amount of plastic headed toward landfills. Moreover, the oil itself is eco-friendly a better choice than some of the other fuels that villagers living near Pune use. And when these villagers opt for the plastic-derived fuel, it means they arent depleting precious resources that are needed for other fuels.
Much cheaper than any other fuel in the market, this one is used in cooking stoves, in generators, and even

Most modern consumer plastics are not made from “crude oil”.

After this, could she look into making progressives useful?
No worries, though, progressive politicians can be ignored since they’ll NEVER be useful for anything.
They haven’t collected the recycle trash for weeks now and will not collect it for a few more weeks so why do we have to store THEIR GARBAGE
The burning of plastics releases some not-so-desirable chemicals into the atmosphere. We need a way to filter them out or render them harmless.
Well, some is made from naphtha but most comes from natural gas.
This is from 2017. If this was a viable system, I would suspect it would be mor3 widely used by now.
There were already plans to do this here in 2002, but it never took off.
The best and most cost effective method is o bury them. Buried plastics cause no harm.
I don’t know. They’d make good fertilizer and worm food... /joke
“Most modern consumer plastics are not made from crude oil.”
Components of plastic come from crude oil and NG refining.
It has been tried before. There were many issues with it, starting with the fact that not all plastic waste is the same and failure to correctly sort out the plastic correctly results in the reaction being poisoned with the output being unusable. For it to work, consumers or other feedstock producers would literally have to be able to sort the different plastic types 100% correctly, something that doesn’t usually happen.
But it would be nice to see them stuffed into her pressure cooker! Hope she posts a video to youtube. :-)

We got PLENTY of ‘free’ labor via the prison system & welfare roles
Like I said NG processing is not CRUDE OIL. Read the link I posted.

LOL
Best post for at least this morning!
“...making progressives useful?”
No.
SPJNK.
Where does the staggering amount of masks, gowns, gloves, etc. go?
Effective, but wasteful.
