The Trump administration is laying the foundation to push for a reopening of parts of the U.S. economy as early as the beginning of May amid rising pressure over unemployment numbers rivaling those during the Great Depression.
President Trump and top government officials in recent days have talked about seeing glimmers of hope and light at the end of the tunnel while publicly discussing ideas for how to revive the economy.
The president has floated reopening businesses in parts of the country that do not have outbreaks. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Wednesday unveiled guidelines meant to encourage those in critical sectors who have been exposed to the coronavirus but arent showing symptoms to continue working.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told CNBC on Thursday that he believes companies could reopen in May as long as Trump feels comfortable with the medical issues.

The media will be wholeheartedly against this.
Called my democRAT CongressCritter complaining about the Democrats going against SBAs additional funding. She didnt know about it. Some of her family members have small businesses. Las Olas (main drag in Fort Lauderdale downtown) is totally shut down. The Pelican Grand Beach Resort across the street from me just laid off its 150 employees. The Fort Lauderdale Air Shore rescheduled from first weekend in May to sometime in the fall. Democrats and the Deep State have gone crazy.
Why only parts that don’t have outbreaks!?!?!?
What’s an outbreak in NYC where I live??
5,000 people??? There’s 8 million people here!!
I dont care if they restrict NYS traffic to other states for another few weeks.
But open up NYC!! Enough!
How about mid April?
A sight to behold!
You're right....what they should do to show their commitment as to how wrong orange man is, once the country opens up, is to continue to broadcast from their basements and living rooms when the rest of the country goes back to work.
There will be nonstop sob stories about all the poor working people that Trump is killing . . . written by rich elitists who never worked an honest day in their lives.
Honestly there is little reason I can see to wait until May... Its clear that there are some hot spots, but that the majority of the country this has been an overhyped dud...
Hotspots should but more stringently controlled, but the rest of the country should have been to work weeks ago... when it was obvious that the prediction models were WAY WAY OFF.
Nonsense... the mortality/infection rate models were contrived BS by the Marxist elites, the globalists, EU & WHO in bed with China! The COVID-19 is not much more out of line then the expectations of influenza or regular flu season stats. And we have HCQ - Hydroxychloroquine as a good countermeasure in treatment and prevention...
SCREW the Marxist W.H.O., EU and MSM panic peddlers.. The only enemy at the gates are those clowns!
Time to release the economy!
It should be open Monday morning. This is total nonsense at this point. Aside from a few hotspots, that are not all that hot in the grand scheme of things, the country should have been open all along.
Trump’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. Keep it shut down and the economy continues to tank and it can cost him in November. Open it and the pandemic comes roaring back and it could cost him in November. Either way has its risks.
Over 160,000 people and climbing.
He has called far more right than wrong. I continue to support whatever he decides.
I believe he has to be a bit cautions.
If he opens America too soon and we're hit with a second wave Democrats and their media will crucify him. Voters too.
A May deadline is not unreasonable. It will given everyone a clear assessment of how effective mitigation has worked.
I trust his instincts.
START MONDAY !!!
With 6,000 dead. That’s it
you coward
My bet—a wild Cinco de Mayo is coming! Drink of choice Corona with lime and Tacos—lots of Tacos.
Lets start planning. Prepare guidelines for manufacturing and industrial plants, and for retail shops.
1. Provide testing for all employees in next week or two.
2. Draw up workplace rules maximizing the current social distancing rules, washing of hands, etc. - taking a reasonable approach (don’t let Fauci do it)
3. Take temperature of all employees entering the work site sending home any with a fever.
4. Promote safety with reasonableness.
Start up May 1.
