In reporting on America facing a critical shortage of N95 masks during this global pandemic, wouldn’t it make sense to look at how that happened and why America is in this position? Not according to CBS. On Wednesday, CBS This Morning’s Dr. Jon LaPook somehow ignored the fact that Barack Obama depleted the supply of masks and never restocked. You’ll never guess who does get mentioned for blame. (Well, you probably will: Donald Trump.)
Co-host Tony Dokoupil introduced, “A Department of Health and Human services report this week echoes urgent calls from hospitals for more supplies. One administrator cited a three to six-month delay for essential items, including those critical N95 face masks.” LaPook passively explained that the supply “is almost depleted” without going into how that happened:
A Department of Homeland Security official told CBS News the strategic national stockpile of protective gear is almost depleted. Last week, President Trump invoked the Defense Production Act ordering private companies to help manufacture ventilators and N95 face masks.
USA Today looked into the idea that the Obama administration could be at least partially to blame in an investigation headlined: “The claim: The Obama administration used and did not replenish the nation’s emergency stockpile of medical supplies, including N95 masks.”
The verdict?
We rate this claim TRUE because it is supported by our research. There is no indication that the Obama administration took significant steps to replenish the supply of N95 masks in the Strategic National Stockpile after it was depleted from repeated crises. Calls for action came from experts at the time concerned for the country’s ability to respond to future serious pandemics. Such recommendations were, for whatever reason, not heeded.

The narrative is that Trump is completely responsible for every shortcoming, every difficulty, relating to this crisis. The narrative is that Trump did not anticipate and plan for medical supply shortages when he should have known that this black Swan event was about to happen.

Honestly, I don’t know how these people live with themselves. Seriously. If your job is to provide unbiased news to society, and you instead mislead people in order to influence events and perceptions, how can you sleep at night?
It is so odd to me to think that hospitals are depending on the government to supply masks. I hope at least they are paying for them. You can bet they are billing insurance companies for them.

I spoke with my daughter about this. She is an ICU nurse.
The disturbing part is that she confirms that she is having a hard time getting PPE from her hospital. That part of what we are hearing is apparently not Fake News.
However....
She does not blame Trump. She says that to her knowledge the hospital actually HAS a sufficient number of gowns and masks, or they can obtain them from state health officials as Mike Pence keeps telling us.
The bottleneck in her view is that nitwit hospital administrators are still trying to manage to the bottom line and reduce costs. This is mind-boggling when you consider that the Feds are backing up all costs for treating coronavirus patients. Somebody still trying to nail numbers for their quarterly bonus apparently. She is frustrated because these administrators understand business but not healthcare.
She says that she has a supply of PPE that she bought herself before the madness hit, but not being able to get it from her employer is not good.
Fortunately she says they have seen very few coronavirus patients. Though the ones she has seen were really, really sick.
Obama is despicable and Trump a hero. But 3 1/2 years in you can’t be blaming your predecessor unless you’ve been asking Congress each year for the funds to refill the stock.
They time out anyway. It wouldn’t have mattered.
CBS sucks.
They’re as corrupt as CNN.
Hope CBS get lots of funding from the Chinese deep state and the sell outs in our government who pushed for Chinese control of American supply chains. Hate to think the whores would sell out cheap.
