The State Departments temporary suspension of visa processing has stopped the inflow of H-1B foreign visa workers into American white-collar jobs while the Chinese coronavirus crisis drives up United States jobless claims to more than ten million.
In a given year, more than 100,000 foreign workers are brought to the U.S. on the H-1B visa and are allowed to stay for up to six years. There are about 650,000 H-1B visa foreign workers in the U.S. at any given moment.
Americans are often laid off in the process and forced to train their foreign replacements, as highlighted by Breitbart News. More than 85,000 Americans annually potentially lose their jobs to foreign labor through the H-1B visa program.
On March 20, the State Department issued a memo announcing that U.S. embassies and consulates would cancel routine visa processing. The memo means thousands of H-1B visas that would have usually been issued to primarily Indian male nationals have been halted, at least temporarily.

USA first: We-The-People and USConstitution.
DC needs be last, least, minimal.
I don't think Americas are going to be willing to pay for software that works in the first release. We want the crappy cheap stuff!
and halt renewal of existing ones when they expire, as well ... send these foreigner packing back to their own countries ...
A lot of fake Republicans must be angry.
“Make it PERMANENT!
Hear hear!! You beat me to it!!!”
Oh no! The CEO’s would have to make do with one Yacht instead of two, and we can’t have that!
Amen to that! We aren’t a hotel here. ENOUGH!
[Make it PERMANENT!]
Works for me.
Some places might have to hire...(gasp)...AMERICANS!!
W. Boosh, Jeb Boosh, Bronco ‘Bama, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer deeply saddened.
"Make it PERMANENT!"
Mike Lee is deeply saddened.
Wit all due respect abortion is not the cause of flooding the country with H-1Bs.
The cause is corporate wanting to replace Americans with cheap, desperate labor.
The US has lots and lots of proven, experienced STEM people who are either underemployed or forced into early penurious retirement by people who work for less than an American can run a car legally on.
Like curtailing plane travel from several countries.
And closing the southern border.
I'm loving these things!
And putting Pelosi and her crybaby boy toy Chuckie in Gitmo.
Oops, the last one hasn't happened...yet!
Abortion is not causing greedy corporations to displace American college grads with cheap foreign imported labor. You supposition is ridiculousness. yo are not helping yo cause by doing this.
good and now stop this once and for all.
End the program. Any H1B laid off or fired need to leave within 60 days per H1B guidelines. And if companies are laying off and firing Americans while keeping H1B employed to avoid having them sent home, they should lose all H1B. With the millions of Americans now out of work what company in American can honestly say they can’t find an American to fill a job and must keep or get an H1B. H1B workers should be immediatley replaced with an American. Give these companies 60 days for the H1B worker to their their American replacement.
Let’s clarify your number 2, Require eVerify to hire. Make it require eVerify for all current and future workers, regardless if them, perm, contract, part- or full-time. Now is a perfect time to filter out illegal workers and force companies to hire Americans at American market rates.
Good! The entire program needs scrapped. Its abused wholesale and cannot be fixed. Its a wage depressor for the IT sector nothing more
“If we didn’t abort millions of babies, maybe we would have a better chance of filling jobs with Americans.”
The genius who figured out the vaccine for COVID was aborted 40 or 50 years ago. Same for AIDS and cancer.
We also need to stop extending student visas to Indian and ESPECIALLY Chinese students, who come here as free labor for academia, and then send stolen intellectual property back home.
