Trump says he'd like economy to reopen 'with a big bang' but acknowledges it may be limited

President Trump said Tuesday night he'd like to see the entire U.S. economy reopen with a "big bang," but acknowledged it will be difficult to manage as certain parts of the country grapple with outbreaks.

"I'd love to open with a big bang, one beautiful country and just open," Trump said on Sean Hannity's Fox News show.

"We're looking at two concepts. We're looking at the concept where you open up sections and we're also looking at the concept where you open up everything," Trump added.

Trump cited New York, New Jersey and Louisiana as areas that may struggle to reopen with the rest of the country due to outbreaks of cases.

The economy, which has been a central argument for Trump's reelection campaign, has cratered in the last few weeks due to the spreading virus. More than 10 million Americans have filed for unemployment in recent weeks.

New York City may be a special exception. But for the rest of the country, at some point we are going to have to encounter the virus. Let’s get it over with and build herd immunity.

Is it too late to give NY back to the injuns? They can keep the beads.

How gracious of you to volunteer to sacrifice other people’s lives for them.

I doubt they want it now either.

Best bet is to cut it off at the border, push it out to sea, and pull the plug.

“How gracious of you to volunteer to sacrifice other people’s lives for them.”

Do you think the weak among us will survive a worldwide Depression greater than the Great Depression?

Honestly, I do not see an alternative. Assuming we are able to come up with a vaccine, it will take 18-24 months. Should we continue to shut down the economy?

This has got to be the cheapest most pathetic, empty argument that I hear over and over. People have to make money to feed themselves and their damn family and their is n to enough money in the world to keep all businesses open for a year or longer if they are shut down. What in the hell is so difficult about this to understand?

Wait no longer.

The Yuge NYC problem is at peak.

Politically It’s fine to open now.

Go to a more nuanced geographical diversity specific plan.

America is not just one place.

Observe, Plan, adapt, execute on a smaller level..

You are right in the economy is the problem, but that problem will be the healthcare costs if infection levels jump substantially in an effort to build herd immunity.

How do you plan to pay the medical costs if 10% of the population gets the virus in the same time period?

Yes, but the incompetent might not though.

And are we in a depression bigger than the Great Depression?

I have not heard that.

Besides, we are starting so far ahead of where our grandparents were when the Great Depression hit. I don’t know ANYONE who dos not have more stuff than they need or can use. We have way better medical care than they did. Better built and insulated houses. Lots more clean water and more access to more kinds of food than they did. Lots more clothes and better made. Better education. More vehicles and better transportation.

I don’t see any economic depression causing people to die from bloody, fluid filled lungs.

A depression is not going to make the things you own disappear overnight. You will still have them.

What would be lost is the ability for MOST people, to buy the latest and greatest toy, all those non-essentials we think we need but only really want.

Even in places like NY we see NYC with huge numbers and upstate ares with very few. Time to say, upstate you can open up and gt back to work, NYC you will wait a bit longer. Repeat in every state.

People can get new jobs.

It’s not like they;’ll never work again.

You cannot give someone their life back though.

Sacrifice is up to the individual to make that decision, not to have it inflicted on them by others.

You want to sacrifice your own life, fine.

Deciding to sacrifice another person’s life is not your decision to make nor is it your right to make it for them. Then it just become s murder.

Where do you get the idea that it is my responsibility to pay for someone else’s medical care? Are you an ACA fan? I think you forget the site you are on. I don’t see 32 million people catching anything. I do know that even a percentage of that with 32 million or more out of work isn’t feasible either.

The last time I was laid off, it took me three and a half years before I had regular full-time employment again - and it was at the same company that had laid me off. I’m at an age where it is very difficult to find anyone willing to hire me.

And if I have to endure another 3 1/2 year stretch of working for a temp agency, I’ll probably end it.

Interesting thoughts but I think you are way off base. Most people are living paycheck to paycheck. It doesn’t matter how much crap you have in your home when you are evicted from that home. Millions destitute is more problematic than hundreds of thousands ill or dead or even a few million dead.
