He’s SecNav, not SecDef

Esper is the Secretary of Defense. The "Department ‘formerly known as” WAR." Before the combination in 1947 the Secretary of the Navy was known as...the Secretary of the Navy.

It cannot be good to have such dirty laundry aired before our enemies of the world.

The Secretary said the Captain was too stupid or too naive to command a nuclear carrier. The Secretary was sending a message to our enemies... the message is that unlike you utterly incompetent f#@(, we don't tolerate d#* *#*# in high command. Any good military person would agree with this sentiment, so I don't see how it could hurt morale, except among those who expect to be babied, who should choose a different career path.

His letter removing the Captain of the ‘big stick’ was sufficient.

He screwed up when he went to the ship and made additional statements that were not necessary

“Still you don’t give speeches like that in front of the troops,...”

Amen

Military leadership, or any leadership for that matter, 101.

Surprising that Modly said those things, being a USNA graduate and 7 years in the navy. Maybe he was absent from M L 101 class.

No one in the chain of command up to and including the CNO wanted Crozier fired. If they had, they would have done it themselves.

My guess is that the CNO and his staff hate Modly.

More than little bit of wiff of Vindman here. We need lions and we got careerist ticket punching lambs. That the entire chain of command was comfortable with Crozier’s behavior is a stain on the proud history of the United States Navy.

That Modly is gone and Crozier is sailing toward admiral is just the latest evidence our military is rotting from within. The left’s Long March through our institions is nearly complete

I’d be willing to bet the DNC tries to run the captain for Congress. He’d be perfect for the DNC.

He's definitely one of them.

1.) From the Bay Area?
2.) Uses the press to make the military look bad?
3.) Writes 5 page letter to all his friends about his feeeelings?
4.) Jumps chain of command?
5.) All the press and Dems immediately on his side?

He's one of them. Rolling Stone cover, here we come.

That thought came immediately to mind the first time I read about this fiasco.

Which would explain why Modly is now an ex-acting Navy Secretary.

Yep - best approach would have been to praise troops for their loyalty and then explain all the ramifications of their Captain’s actions and the requirement to remove him from command...SecNav acted like an idiot....pretty much called the whole crew stupid and naive by proxy.

It's been going on since the 1920s; I will say the fact that someone like Modly was even appointed as acting Secretary at all is a breath of fresh air. No way that any Bush or Obama would tolerate anyone with traditional views on military service trying to enforce military discipline and standards of conduct.

How were they able to record him? That in itself should be investigated, as well as the subsequent release of the recording.
