President Trump said Monday he is “going to get involved” in settling a heated dispute between Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly and former USS Theodore Roosevelt Capt. Brett Crozier, who was fired last week after writing a letter about a worsening coronavirus outbreak aboard his ship that was later published by the San Francisco Chronicle.
During a press conference at the White House, the president praised both men and said he doesn’t want Capt. Crozier’s career to be ruined because of a “bad day.”
“I’ve heard very good things about the gentleman, both gentlemen,” Mr. Trump said. “I may just get involved … you have two good people and they’re arguing. And I’m good, believe it or not, at settling arguments.”
Capt. Crozier’s “career prior to that was very good,” the president continued, “so I’m going to get involved and see exactly what’s going on there. Because I don’t want to destroy somebody for having a bad day.”
Mr. Trump did not specify exactly how he’ll get involved or what steps he’ll take to settle the controversy.
The president’s comments came on the heels of Mr. Modly addressing the 4,000 crew members of the Roosevelt — which is now docked in Guam after more than 150 sailors tested positive for COVID-19 — and blasting Capt. Crozier.
“If he didn’t think, in my opinion, that this information wasn’t going to get out into the public in this day and information age that we live in, then he was either ‘A’ too naive or too stupid to be commanding officer of a ship like this. The alternative is that he did this on purpose,” Mr. Modly said, according to a transcript and recording of his message over the ship’s public address system.

Meanwhile at Ft. Hood, the Brigade commander moved his museum piece helicopter without informing his superior officer, the General. Got into heap big trouble for his initiative.
Not only that, but I read he “cc’d” 20 people on that email, and this is precisely how it got leaked to the press, which seems to be the deliberate intent.
I have read that the Admiral under who’s command he falls, was present on the ship during the entire period.
“if we have to fight we will go, even though we are sick, and do our best”
I refer you to Sean Connery in “The Rock”:
“John Mason: Are you sure youre ready for this?
Stanley Goodspeed: Ill do my best.
John Mason: Your best! Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and eff the prom queen.”
This Capt might have all the chops for rotary and fixed wing, as well as how to BUILD a nuclear-powered engine....but the guy’s leadership skills are zero. And this is who we had in command of a carrier that helps protect our Pacific Fleet. Riiiiigggghhhht. He’s an effing drama queen.
The pregnancies will only be a threat to the lives of men during an actual war.
Trump needs to stay out of this one the captain was definitely NOT commander material, this idiot was the commanding officer of a nuclear WAR SHIP there is no room for a commanding officer to PANIC over any situation what the hell would this asshats reaction be if bombs were coming at him GEEZE LOUISE what a pansie loser!! I would like to know who in the hell thought he had leadership skills in the first place!! My thoughts are he just kissed all the right asses!!
My gut feeling is that an aircraft carrier would have enough space to set up a separate quarantine zone where the affected crew could be isolated and meals could be served to them there (yes, I’ve been on aircraft carriers). The rest of the crew would go on twice a day temperature checks and enhanced sanitation would become a priority. It would have at least shown that the commander was doing something to mitigate the problem while waiting for further instructions and proper protective gear to be delivered. His doing essentially nothing but complain suggests he didn’t even trust his crew to be resourceful and come up with interim solutions.
LOL!!! Seems like he didn’t master the SECRECY stuff!!
I agree - he could have taken some positive action instead of going all snowflake-bonkers.
Last I heard, its pretty difficult to produce soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen without pregnancy.
Oh, it's a necessity to create troops, but it's a threat to their war mission when it happens in the service.
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
I agree, at this point. When the Navy's investigation is complete, he is certainly entitled to his chop on the findings.
What is the threat? There is maternity leave and paternity leave in all the services.
You must have forgotten your gulf war history. Huge numbers of women "serving" on naval ships and in other military occupations, intentionally got pregnant so as to keep themselves out of harm's way.
Women shouldn't be in the service in any but support jobs. It is some Patricia Schroeder idiocy to ever let them in war fighting positions.
Just having women in combat positions is a detriment to the war fighting capabilities.
There’s nothing stopping the current Department Of Defense from limiting combat-related MOS .
Is it ok with you if a military nurse gets pregnant?
Back in the day... crabs
One Guy and the Ship was infected ... we dealt with it and beat his ass.
Sunshine
Occupational hazard for sailors.
