'Going To Get Involved': Trump To Settle Dispute Between Modly And Fired Capt. Crozier
The Washington Examiner ^ | 04/07/20 | Ben Wolfgang

President Trump said Monday he is “going to get involved” in settling a heated dispute between Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly and former USS Theodore Roosevelt Capt. Brett Crozier, who was fired last week after writing a letter about a worsening coronavirus outbreak aboard his ship that was later published by the San Francisco Chronicle.

During a press conference at the White House, the president praised both men and said he doesn’t want Capt. Crozier’s career to be ruined because of a “bad day.”

“I’ve heard very good things about the gentleman, both gentlemen,” Mr. Trump said. “I may just get involved … you have two good people and they’re arguing. And I’m good, believe it or not, at settling arguments.”

Capt. Crozier’s “career prior to that was very good,” the president continued, “so I’m going to get involved and see exactly what’s going on there. Because I don’t want to destroy somebody for having a bad day.”

Mr. Trump did not specify exactly how he’ll get involved or what steps he’ll take to settle the controversy.

The president’s comments came on the heels of Mr. Modly addressing the 4,000 crew members of the Roosevelt — which is now docked in Guam after more than 150 sailors tested positive for COVID-19 — and blasting Capt. Crozier.

“If he didn’t think, in my opinion, that this information wasn’t going to get out into the public in this day and information age that we live in, then he was either ‘A’ too naive or too stupid to be commanding officer of a ship like this. The alternative is that he did this on purpose,” Mr. Modly said, according to a transcript and recording of his message over the ship’s public address system.

Thought it was interesting that when Captain Crozier was leaving his ship. All the personal on the ship where crowed together and cheering him on?

Wait a minute I though the ship had Coronavirus? If so, then why were they all together saying good bye?

I am glad Trump is getting involved.
This has all the feel of someone in the military or State Dept leaking his to the press.

The slime media will report Trump interfering with the military (which, of course, he has every right to) in three, two, one.

What’s the background of this “acting” SecNav?

If you do not HATE, loathe, and f*rt in the general direction of the media, you really are not well informed.

Crozier was sick with Covid. Might have impacted his judgment.

They were on a Navy ship. Where were they supposed to go?

Crozier’s job was to deal with the problem. His successor will have to do what he didn’t do.

Its tough to deal with this aboard ship but might be tougher still if you dump 5000 sailors in a port that isn’t able to deal with them. And you can’t simply unman a nuke.

The sole mission of these media people is to make Trump look bad. You can bet your entire IRA that those that run the major media outlets have purposely created this TDS culture in employees and readers. They truly have a fairness and objectivity gene sequence out of whack.

"Crozier was sick with Covid. Might have impacted his judgment."

I was thinking along those lines too. It might be the reasoning to reinstate him and save face for everyone.

How will those with TDS spin this? They were the ones claiming Trump personally fired Captain Crozier.

Here is my take. It appears Captain Crozier communicated military readiness levels, which are always classified, over standard email (NIPRNET), rather than over the SIPRNET. If so, that was a major screw-up.

Shhhh...

It is our duty to do what we can for our people - even be a pain in the ass with our superiors...I stood in front of commanders a number of times to plead mercy or rewards for some of my people and pissed a number of commanders off....but I did it the right way and didn't leak 20+ copies of 5-page letters that undermined my chain of command, and which could have National Security ramifications...I agree with the Sec of the Navy calling him too stupid to be in command.

Let’s face it..TRUMP WILL NEVER EVER DEFEAT THE SWAMP! I have resigned myself to that...BUT WE CAN DEFEAT THE MEDIAVOMITS if we would just rise up! I sometimes feel the Americans have lost their backbone! The media is at liberty to lie to the American people drink the Kool-Aid while we just bend over and let them do it! THE MEDIA IS THE VIRUS!! How hard is that to print on a tee shirt and wear when you go to the store etc... I got myself a white tee and with a red marker wrote those words in the front and back!! We can all do our part!! SO DO SOMETHING!! ANYTHING!!

Too late. Modly already issued a public apology for his comments about Cozier.

Be careful, Mr. President. None of the great commanders in military history — the ones who actually won battles — tried to win a popularity contest with the men under their command. Rather, they were respected for their cunning, their up-front leadership, and their ability to push them to their limit.

The crew had been tested and those who had the virus had already been removed.

I was not in the Navy, so I will defer to anyone who understand the chain of command or carrier operations.

We do know that these 5000 people live in very close quarters. I imagine viruses spread quickly all the time aboard ship. We also know this particular disease has a very limited affect on the young and health (ie. sailors). large ships like this do have functioning hospitals and doctors, do they not?

why not simply test everyone onboard regularly, to track the spread? Bring on enough HCQ and Azt to treat everyone, whether they show symptoms or not. Make everyone wear masks. Clean the ship regularly. Even bring a aboard some extra ventilators and nurses, just in case. Then in a few weeks, test everyone for antibody formation - they would provide invaluable information to the CDC and the rest of the nation.

I am just amazed how easily America’s largest, most expensive weapons system has been neutralized by a virus - and deep-state politics. What kind of message does that send to our enemies?
