[Donald Trump likes to run his mouth in a stream of consciousness. This behavior endears him to his supporters who are tired of political spin and obfuscation from professional politicians, including most Republicans. Unfortunately, he sometimes engages his mouth before fully considering the ramifications and the potential for damage to himself.]

I like subtlety. But if subtlety comes with betrayal, as it did with Romney, McCain, Bush, et al, then I have no problem with Trump’s brashness. Trump is the Al Czervik of presidents. He has no filter. But that’s OK. Point-scoring is big in the UK. It’s not as big stateside. Nobody cares about the horse race aspect of political banter. We just want to see results. That’s why something as academic as Question Time would fall flat here.

"We're confident the prime minister is receiving the best possible care from the National Health Service..."

Sayonara, Boris.

Yes, unfortunately that’s what it says in this article:

https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/04/07/delingpole-boris-johnson-may-be-denied-chloroquine/

They’re trying to control this deadly disease with just oxygen and paracetemol?? That is really bad. I hope this isn’t true. Even Iran, yes Iran, is giving HCQ to all patients exhibiting covi19 symptoms, and it’s helping all over Europe as well.

You assume that the UK’s Deep State, and they have one, wants BoJo to get the best treatment.

Had American help been accepted it would have been a public declaration American medical knowledge and care is superior to British NHS public healthcare. No government with a public healthcare system can admit publicly its care is deficient.

This has got to be the dumbest thing I've read today. Does this dopey logic apply to vacines as well as treatments?

Yes. My niece-in-law happily said ‘I am pleased to pay more of my money in taxes so that everyone will have healthcare’.

She is a stay at home Mom who also homeschools. So, she already doesn’t trust the education system. But is happy to pay more of my nephew’s hard earned money into the NHS. Virtue-signaling at it’s best.

But yes. Boris MUST show he trusts the NHS. They had better do well by him.

“Reject” sounds harsh. Why not politely declines?

I'd be curious to know the amount a US Citizen pays per month for health insurance (+ potential allowance for copays and deductibles) v what we pay in National Insurance for the NHS.

Either that, or there are some really good specialists that aren’t pay-bound hacks of the NHS and some trusted adviser knows how to find them. Or, just perhaps, he has a trusted patriotic doctor in his corner supervising the case.

Or, as you seem to think... not. In which case, he’s lucky that he kept breathing on his own.

That would be interesting. All I know is, when I was working in Britain and making peanuts because I wasn’t licensed in the UK (but I was still hired into Laboratory work) the Government was still taking 50% of my paycheck in taxes. I was shocked at the rate. And back then (a few decades ago) all I ever received from the Government was a post card that told me how much I had cumulatively paid over the year. No deductions, no control over what the Government was allowed to take. Being an American in Britain was a real eye-opening experience. And with both my husband and I working, we still couldn’t afford to even come back to the USA for a visit.

Donald Trump likes to run his mouth in a stream of consciousness. This behavior endears him to his supporters who are tired of political spin and obfuscation from professional politicians, including most Republicans. Unfortunately, he sometimes engages his mouth before fully considering the ramifications and the potential for damage to himself.

The public announcement of the offer for support did nothing for Trump or Johnson. Once the offer became public, it had to be rejected. Had American help been accepted it would have been a public declaration American medical knowledge and care is superior to British NHS public healthcare. No government with a public healthcare system can admit publicly its care is deficient.

I watched the news conference and cringed when Trump announced he had offered American expertise to Johnson’s doctors. President Trump enjoys bragging about American exceptionalism and as a good leader he should from time to time. However, this is a situation where a human life is potentially in the balance and private diplomacy is needed for the political reasons indicated above. Sometimes national leaders need to be subtly diplomatic and unfortunately subtle diplomacy is not a core competence President Trump demonstrates. Hopefully Johnson will not die because advice and knowledge which could have been communicated privately and confidentially cannot now be received.

I cringe when people say they cringe over something Donald Trump says. It reminds me of Jeb Bush saying he doesn’t like Donald Trump’s tone.

Just to confirm payments to the NHS, though.

I'm currently on £26k/$32k per annum (I was on more but after I had cancer I had a re-think about what was important and cut my hours somewhat) and my current NI contributions are £160.68/$198.29. No co-pays, no deductibles. All healthcare free at point of service (ambulance, emergency, all treatments, scans, operations etc.) How does that compare?

My husband pays a bit more monthly for very good coverage. Low deductible and few co-pays. He can choose his doctors and when he needs any medical or surgical attention, it can be scheduled within one-two months. He also make much more in salary than when he worked in Britain. As an American, I had higher expectations for medical care than I found in Britain. But my experience WAS a few decades ago.

My husband pay approx. $25 more per month than you. Sorry, I should have been more exact.
