Medical workers across the region are being treated to cheesesteaks from Pats King of Steaks. The South Philly icon has begun a project to donate 1,000 of its signature sandwiches to hospitals, according to spokesperson Nancy Schure.
So far, the local comfort food has been delivered to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Jefferson and Penn Presbyterian, Schure said, with additional batches set for Einstein, Temple Hospital and CHOP this week.
The 90-year-old steak shop has also sent hundreds to workers at Mt. Sinai in New York and the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
I cant believe this is my first Philly cheesesteak, says a nurse at Mt. Sinai, seen in a video peeling back the paper and adding her own Whiz on top.
Hospitals have welcomed a flood of food donations over the past couple of weeks. Some of these medical worker meals are being paid for by crowdfunding campaigns, set up with the dual purpose of giving shuttered restaurants some business and feeding frontline medical workers at the same time

Clearly Tom Wolf believes that cheesesteaks are essential to maintaining human life.
Hes probably right about that one.

Good for them.
(It's too bad they don't have a country-wide delivery capability for those cheesesteaks!)

Jim’s on 62nd is closed I believe...I am more familiar with Jim’s on South street from when I was a kid...especially at 1 am.

Delesandros is the best. Then Mammas.Going to have to go with Tony Luke's, personally. I also prefer Geno's over Pat's if you're down at that corner of the Italian Market; but in this situation, Pat's is doing a wonderful thing and deserves praise. Hope many of the others follow suit.

First time in Philly my wife and I were walking down South Street and under the exhaust fans of Jim's blowing right over the sidewalk. Best marketing evah! Since then I always go to Jim's. I figure that if the other places were any better it might kill me.

I'll have to check that out next time I'm down to see my mom...I grew up in
Media and always thought the cheese steaks were better in Delco. Never had
a Cheese steak with Wiz until Pat's put a franchise in Prospect Park when I
was a teenager. It lasted all of a year...up against the local competition, it
never had a chance...lol
