Novartis announced in a March 20, 2020 press release that it will donate up to 130 million doses of generic hydroxychloroquine and thatit is exploring scaling of capacity to increase supply. Novartis Sandoz division currently only holds a registration for hydroxychloroquine in the US . ..

While this article is from ten days ago, it is worth posting. Someone posted the link on another thread, but I did not see the article, and it answered my question from earlier this evening "Is it known which plants in the USA are planning to ramp up production?".

Do you notice if you do a Google search for hydroxychloroquine, you have to type in the whole word?

Google will not auto suggest it.

Here’s the Mylam press release from just overv2 weeks ago:

Mylan Ramps Up U.S. Manufacturing of Hydroxychloroquine Sulfate Tablets to Meet Potential COVID-19 Patient Needs
http://newsroom.mylan.com/2020-03-19-Mylan-Ramps-Up-U-S-Manufacturing-of-Hydroxychloroquine-Sulfate-Tablets-to-Meet-Potential-COVID-19-Patient-Needs

It’s a little unsatisfying in that they don’t say how long it would take to generate the 50 million pills. Also, they say that would treat 1.5 million people, which seems odd. None of the treatment regimens I’ve seen discussed are as many as 30 doses. Typically under 20, under 10 even.

I do not use Google. Let us not think that Google is our friend.

It is akin to wondering why Siri does not answer when one asks “Siri, do you work for the NSA?”.

Yes. It is good to compare changes in press releases over time. Dr. Zelezny’s protocol is 1 200 mg pill over 5 days.

1.5 million persons x 5 is 7.5 million pills.

Perhaps the other 42.5 million pills are going somewhere else for a higher price.

Or, they may be dealing with the French model, which uses a higher number of doses. In addition, two weeks ago, HCQ was not FDA approved for use. This is why it is good to compare.

Siri has something to say about that...

Now THAT’s funny. I asked my daughter if she had really thought about it when they started going wild with Alexa and turning lights on and stuff. I told her I doubted Alexa would ever hear anything in their home the would ever be a problem since her husband is a Baptist Pastor but she might want to reflect at least briefly, the girl does have a PhD. She said, “Alexa only listens after you say ‘Alexa’.” Seriously.

Yeah, lots of people don’t think about that. If it’s voice activated, it HAS to be listening all the time.

In fact, there’s a guy that’s likely going to be convicted of murder based on what “Alexa” overheard.

On the other hand, ‘Siri’ isn’t listening at all times on Apple devices unless you enable it; on my iPhone, you have to hit and hold the lock button to get it come up. That’s not to say that it’s not hypothetically possible for someone to switch it on in software, but so far people have been watching for it and it doesn’t send random data back to Apple when you have it set to require a hardware button press-and-hold to work.

Not ideal, but if you have need of such services, it’s a better option than “listens all the time” Google or Amazon solutions.

My IPad here has a “Siri” button. I have no idea what happens if you click on it. I suspect it is probably “on” anyway.

Not by default, actually. You have to opt-in for always-on Siri (called ‘Hey, Siri’.)

Otherwise, you press it, Siri waits for voice commands. Close the program and quit it, Siri releases the microphone and goes back to sleep.

She said, “Alexa only listens after you say ‘Alexa’.

Really? How does she hear "Alexa?"

********************************************
I have mine set that way, It listens but is basically “off” and ignores EVERYTHING other than the word ‘Siri’ and hearing that “wakes up” and asks what you want.

The funny thing is that a few months ago Siri on my iPad would “wake” at what I thought was random times when I didn’t say the name Siri. It didn’t take long for me to figure out that it liked Donald Trump’s voice and would wake up every time I was doing something on the iPad and the TV had something on with the President saying the word “Syria” - promptly waking Siri!

HCQ is FDA approved.

CV isn’t an on-label use of the drug, but the drug is FDA approved.
