Nitric oxide is emerging as a potential treatment for COVID-19, and doctors around the world are testing it again after it had shown to kill another coronavirus, SARS.

"It's a pretty remarkable drug," Massachusetts General Hospital critical-care specialist Dr. Lorenzo Berra, who is leading a trial, told the L.A. Times. "It has a risk profile that is minimal." . . . .

Dr. Berra said nitric oxide was also found to kill a coronavirus that leapt from bats to humans, University of Leuven in Belgium researchers found in 2004, according to the report. "The story ended there," Berra told the Times, noting the SARS epidemic ended in eight months and "nobody tested anymore."

Warfarin is the same thing as Coumadin.

I am pretty sure my Mom was initially on Heparin, but I could be wrong too.

She had an adverse reaction to what she was on and had to be hospitalized. After that, they changed her medication.

Probably not a lot of people generally know that Viagra came into being as it was being study for it’s potential in what is called Right sided Heart Failure. It was during double blind trials with patients with fairly severe Right Side Heart failure, that investigators learned (the blinded patients were with or without the drug, that is a placebo) patients did not want to give up their remaining pills as different segments of investigation closed.

Once the “code” was broken, savvy nurse investigators noticed it was every single one of the study patients who didn’t want to stop-— were on the study drug, not placebo. Inquiry further revealed the startling nitric oxide pathway effects of Viagra in ED.

Viagra continues to have a exclusive non-generic patent on the dosing/putup and indication for Right sided heart failure (some 80mg/day-— and this is not a joke— it helps these patients a great deal).

The same effects on nitric oxide pathways-— apparently have profound effects on SARS-COV2- CCP virus, from what the article describes.

We used to have a cat that loved to flick the doorstops. Never got old. She had a great sense of humor.

The “tonic” being quinine from the tree bark source the discovery of which for use in malaria, made the British Empire possible in the malaria stricken areas of the world.

It was Peruvian natives who used he bark of the Cinchona tree in an extract to fight chills and fever in the seventeenth century. The quinine drug goes all the way back to 1633, amazingly. Hydroxychloroquine, and chloroquine are both analogues of quinine.

The British invented the used of tonic/quinine fizzy water with GIN! (yes!) to enable their people to take the quinine daily. It worked. And... gin brought down the Empire so it is said.

Well, this proves that Biden was way ahead of Trump on this COVID issue, as evidenced by the turgid perspicacity of his medical guidance and advice, all the way back when he boldly bellowed, "Stand Up, Chuck!"

Not a drug at all-— an over the counter prep— high cost, and does not work to any effect on the nitric oxide cascade to ‘lift up” the target organ by filling normally empty chambers which expand and engorge from the effect of sildenafil and others of that class of prescription medications.

Why wouldn’t doctors just use warfarin instead of Viagra? Warfarin is relatively cheap, commonly available and proven to prevent blood clots. I would suspect heparin would be administered first in the hospital to get rid of the clots and warfarin to prevent re-occurrence.

Yes, I think I got heparin and warfarin mixed up.

My original question was whether Viagra was being used to treat or prevent blood clotting problems encountered in some CV patients.
