I wish the Surgeon General would just can the hyperbole. He's making a broad brush statement without any regard to what he knows about people's lives. I'm pretty sure that a family that has lost a young child or the sudden death of a parent is the "hardest and the saddest" for many people.
If he meant something different then he expressed it inartfully. It's almost as if these people get in front of a TV camera and they just can't control themselves - they love to hear themselves talk.
And here's the other thing - what IS the point of making such a statement? Does it help get the nation through COVID-19? Search fir treatment? Get more masks made? Anything? It just stokes FUD. Disgraceful.

which would be April 11th or 12th.
80,000 people died of the flu in the US the winter of 2017-2018 and these people never batted an eyelash.
I am not a fan of this guy anyway, this was not needed. If you lost someone last week or the week before it was your bad week. Why do this.
I thought all non essential workers were sent home. Why is he still out there?
What would be nice is if people who test positive get the malaria cocktail so they don't get worse and have to be hospitalized.
As it stands, folks that are testing positive have generally got a pat on the back, told to go home....and have become nothing but a number.
The Maine number have been good, we actually have one county with no cases. The death rate is a little better than the nations rate, but the recoveries are a third of total cases, which is a great number. Per capital we’re 26 cases per 100,000, compared to 97 cases per 100,000 on average for the country.
He said "most people". The fact is most people have not lost a child or a parent to sudden death.
Because he cannot command and operate under pressure.
He lets emotion and feeling overwhelm the ability to think clearly.
And because I suspect he likes the sound of his own voice.

The point is that he is making a broad brush statement where it was not warranted, and for which serves no useful purpose.
He’s referring to the collective experience shared by Americans. You may be too young to appreciate that some events stand out above others. Certainly this is one such event.
The economic fallout will far outpace the virus, by light-years.
Trump was saying the same thing yesterday. I think they know that this is going to be a bad week and they want people to know ahead of time so they don’t panic when they see the numbers soar. They also hope that people will be extra cautious the next few weeks.
Believe he may have said the exact same thing last Sunday on a show.
My own hardest and saddest moment was when the young tease decided to say, “no”...50 years ago and I still mourn...
That's just a statistic driven by the population count of the NYC area hot spot along with the Detroit, NOLA and Boston hot spots.
Many areas in the US will be getting their surge later and it will be problematic for them too. DC is just focusing on itself and treating the whole country with a simplistic [dictatorial?] top down approach.

What would be sensible would be to focus on ramping up production and prodicing enough to dose the entire workforce.
Not settling for half assed measures and pretending that was smart.
