‘Just insanity’: Closed Pa. businesses cry foul as competitors snag waivers to reopen
WHYY ^ | 04/02/2020 | Laura Benshoff, Ryan Briggs

(snip) The Wolf administration has faced mounting public criticism from lawmakers in the GOP over its handling of the COVID-19 shutdown and its effect on businesses.

State Sen. Ryan Aument (R-Lancaster) says there’s been a lack of transparency that has left thousands of business owners in different industries across the state in the dark. (snip)

I don’t expect the lesson to be learned, but there is a lesson in all of this.

Government is inherently corrupt. It serves itself. Big Government brings big problems. Regulations are there to help the big guys and screw the little guys. And most of us are little guys. So regulations inherently screw We The People.

Government should protect our God-given rights (see: The Constitution) and should protect our borders and run our court system. That’s it.

All the do-gooders who want government to “help” and provide social justice are just helping Fascists in government perform favors for people who pay bribes to bureaucrats.

The last 10-15 years ought to have taught us that government needs to be cut in half. At least. It’s not there to help us.

And, again, does this sound like the actions of a governor trying to stop the spread of a horrible pandemic and save lives... or the action of someone “in the know” who’s instituting a power grab?

Obviously voted the wrong side of the ticket.

The response of many — even MOST — FReepers to this fiasco has made me pretty much give up any hope that this country has much of a future as a free nation.

The first obvious sign was when one guy posted a message here informing us that his gun club had closed under the governor’s orders ... a freaking GUN CLUB.

Wolf turned this over to Millenial staffers who drew up an arbitrary list based on their own uber-Left sensibilities.

Law firms threatened to sue and the floodgates were opened.

Silver lining is that Wolf is surely ending his political career through incompetence.

And here in PA our state and local governments (and in particular Democrats) have long-standing, deep ties to organized crime. So the corruption is fully expected.

It just occurred to me that the Democrats believe they have found the key to getting rid of Trump: destroy the economy by closing down all commercial activity. It’s the unspoken objective, like voter fraud has been for years. Jay Inslee is the poster boy for this approach. They have finally discovered how to destroy the Trump economy. If this doesn’t terrify you, you’re not paying attention.

Business owners shouldn’t be “crying foul.” They should be opening their damn doors no matter what edicts their stupid governor issued.

“The first obvious sign was when one guy posted a message here informing us that his gun club had closed under the governor’s orders ... a freaking GUN CLUB.”

That may have been me. Our club is closed “on the advice of counsel” in spite of the fact that gun shops have been specifically named as essential by our Dem Governor. We aren’t happy about that at all.

I forwarded the DHS Guidance document to the Board Chairman a few days ago but haven’t heard anything back. That document specifically names shooting ranges as essential.

Joining this club was not inexpensive, btw.

The economy is going to go on, not in the shops, which have been ordered not to be active. People are doing their thing in their home, coming to your home etc. If the government and the press want to say the economy is “shut down”, that ain’t right. It’s humming along at a low level and the humming will increase. I know trainers are meeting people in their front or back yards and maintaining social distancing. Corporations haven’t missed much of a beat, banks are still operating from the drive up windows, lawyers are still mediating with Zoom and talking to the courts on conference calls. Personal services are making house calls, using masks and loads of hand sanitizer. Lawns are getting mowed, houses getting cleaned, bugs being sprayed, root canals are getting done.

Again I point out, lawyers are the last line of defense against government overreach. Much as you hate us, we resist on your behalf.

If it was you, then I’d consider leaving that gun club. No offense, but a gun club that shuts down under government orders is acting more like a Girl Scout troop than a gun club.

Then with all due respect, why did you extract an exemption for yourselves and not for all the rest of us?
