As the nation gets more stringent about non-essential travel and bans on group gatherings to slow the spread of coronavirus, one expert says the pandemic may result in an unintended rise in drug and alcohol relapses among those who are in recovery.

Make it an impeachment article?
Yeah, I know a few people early in sobriety and not being able to get to meetings is really rough on them.
I just had my first NA virtual meeting on Zoom. I was good to see and share with some of the members of our fellowship. It wasn’t the same as a regular meeting but is important to stay connected.
I’ve never lapsed so can’t relapse.

No. The virus is not doing this. Power-mad tyrants, under the ruse of keeping you “protected” and “safe” are doing this. Human beings. Not viruses.
The most despicable disgusting humans on the face of the earth.
The republic is lost.
I spent most of my adult life drinking every day to the point of blackout and smoking 3 packs a day.quit smoking in 13 cold turkey and phased out drinking to `1 or 2 days a week. Basically 7 days a week I either drink a few (not blackout, but a few) or I go to the gym. At 46 the gym treats me better than the booze.
And yeah, its rough lately and I have to fight the urge a lot. Thank God I have a home gym. Saves my sanity
Same here, not as good as f2f but it works.
Almost 4 years sober, and I've had some of the strongest urges in the last couple of weeks. Thank God for my wife.
These are people who were looking for an excuse to drink or use
Plenty of online meetings. Shouldve gotten phone numbers
LOL! Some memes never grow old!
Why is it the TITLE and the first line of the article contradict themselves ? (Just asking for my imaginary friend)
Only ones doing good are gamblers. Casinos and OTBs are shutdown and any sporting event you could gamble on is postponed.
Online meetings
Phone numbers
Just folks looking for an excuse
Would that make you a ‘pro-lapse’ ?
But the truth is I received an email the other day from the director of a twelve step program that I used to be heavily involved in. Even though I think that this virus is way overblown as a threat to healthy people...these aren't by and large healthy people and the suicide rate has always been just a step behind strokes, cancers, and heart failure.
It's not how I want to spend my time but there aren't many people who could step in and help run things.
Probably this will be a wake-up call and a lot of people will be working on recovery.
There are a whole lot of people that are either alcoholics or workoholics.
Plenty of domestic violence going on now too I imagine. Families with both parents usually working with kids off to school or daycare or school and aftercare, all having o learn to live with each other.
