Duterte tells Philippine police to shoot dead lockdown troublemakers

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has told security forces they should shoot dead anyone causing "trouble" in areas locked down due to the coronavirus pandemic.

About half the country's roughly 110 million people are currently under quarantine -- including millions in deep poverty, left jobless by tough restrictions on movement.

Hours before Duterte gave the order in a speech late Wednesday, nearly two dozen people from a slum community in the capital Manila were arrested for holding a protest that accused the government of failing to provide food aid to the poor.

"My orders are to the police and military, also village officials, that if there is trouble or the situation arises that people fight and your lives are on the line, shoot them dead," Duterte said.

"Instead of causing trouble, I'll send you to the grave," he said, adding that the outbreak is getting worse more than two weeks into the lockdown.

The Philippines has so far detected 2,311 cases and reported 96 deaths, but the country has only begun ramping up testing and so the number of confirmed infections is expected to keep rising.

Mama always was a good cook, and she is still in it, but they stopped until this virus thing is over. She will just have certificates now. She has a gate pass, to go out to grocery stores and drug stores. If the cops stop them randomly, they just say I am going to the grocery store, even if they have other intentions in mind.

Duterte talks tough, but the common folk respect him for his war on drug dealers that have harmed poor folks families via theft, and addiction in family members...but there is a lot of hunger getting worse in the unemployed due to the quarantine. Our mayor just went to the poor neighborhoods to give out sacks of rice and even some live chickens... and I suspect it is worse in the slums of Manila.

However, while the Wuhan flu is in the headlines, China has expanded their fake islands in the West Philippine sea, and are harassing Filipino fishermen and even the US Navy who routinely patrol in that area to keep the sea lanes (from the Middle East to Japan and Korea) open.

That, by the way, is the reason that they fired that hysterical captain of an air craft carrier: essentially he removed an aircraft carrier from the US Navy by publicity about a few dozen sick sailors. So now China knows how to get rid of the US Navy.

Dr. Leonard McCoy would certainly lose his voice from all of the “He’s dead Jim” pronouncements.
