Initial jobless claims surged to more 6.6 million last week, the Labor Department said Thursday.
That brings the two-week total to about 10 million due to the coronavirus-induced economic shutdown.
The torrent of Americans filing for unemployment insurance skyrocketed last week as more than 6.6 million new claims were filed, the Labor Department reported Thursday. That brings to 10 million the total Americans who filed over the past two weeks.
Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had expected 3.1 million for last week, one week after 3.3 million filings in the first wave of what has been a record-shattering swelling of the jobless ranks. The previous week’s total was revised higher by 24,000.
Stock market futures gave up most of their previous gains in the morning but still pointed to a slightly higher open on Wall Street.
On an unadjusted basis, the total was 5.8 million, a number that some economists consider more relevant because seasonal adjustments are less relevant due to the unusual impact the coronavirus-induced shutdown has had on the economy.

The Pence team is the ones who directed the lockdown. It’s called Phase 2C of the National response plan. Stop passing the buck if you disagree with it. Be man enough to call Trump and Pence liars or fools for falling for liars-but stop passing the buck-that’s the cowards way out. This isn’t about Trump. This is about those trying to destroy him by keeping us on permanent lockdown without at least giving us some sort of exit plan. Dr. Fauci Doochie Do’s exit plan is to pimp LOCKDOWN and roll eyes at any treatment or mention of one. When someone on the team dissents, he runs to CNN.
Or do you think it is a coincidence that the democrats are now pushing an “all mail” election? Oh sure, what could go wrong? These bastards aren’t even hiding it any longer. They know they can’t beat Trump, were given a pandemic that does, indeed require a period of lockdown and are doing their level best to extend it to infinity but NOT ONE SECOND past a dam being declared the winner.
But suddenly, poor Fauci Doochie Do finds that the American Public is not so keen on lockdowns. He finds that the fear of economic ruination, that extends far far far far far beyond the end of this virus is twenty orders of magnitude greater than the fear Dr. Stephen King has been pimping.
Suddenly he finds himself in need of a security detail and the increasing subject of derision that would make Alinsky shutter.
Lets see how quickly this guy realizes that CNN can’t protect him form that. Want to bet he starts changing his tune?

But I have to point this out.
Any forecast or prediction of doom about this virus is instantly trumped and accepted as gospel by our media.
But any mention or forecast about the economic impacts is instantly dismissed.
Nope - but I do not think it manly to call out others and call them deep state when they are supported by the President - and then support the president and say he is going after the deep state. I call that SEVERE cognitive dissonance at its finest! If they are trying to destroy Trump - then he is helping them and he should stop.
So its “manly” for any of us to sit behind a keyboard and type our opinion? Dude, if you served your country or volunteered or are a good Dad, etc. then I think that is more “manly” than anything any of us will ever do on FR. With the exception of that person who caught Dan Rather. That was “man up” right there.

If you check the record, Trump may have fired Comey but at one point he was praising him as well. The problem is this. So long as someone is on the team, Trump has to praise him. But Trump is stuck with this guy because to outright fire him now would be a disaster in so many ways.
The solution: isolate him by making an announcement that they are expanding the team. Yes, I know there are others on the team, but not in front of the camara. Expand the team to add other prominent experts. There are quite many of them out there that think Dr. Fauci needs some tempering.
Anyway, I stand by everything I said and note that you have not raised one logical point to refute it. Instead your answer seems to be: “man up and support Fauci because of Trump.”
No. I will support Trump and criticize Fauci because I support Trump and not Dr. LOCKDOWN.

For the week of March 15-21, Oregonians filed 77,000 applications. The 'official' number reported by the Feds was 22,000, because that was the number processed by unemployment staff. And the 77,000 doesn't reflect the number of people who weren't able to get through to file their application.
