Russian plane with coronavirus medical gear lands in U.S. after Trump-Putin call

A Russian military transport plane left an airfield outside Moscow and arrived at New York's John F. Kennedy airport in late afternoon on Wednesday.

MOSCOW/WASHINGTON - Russia sent the United States medical equipment on Wednesday to help fight the coronavirus pandemic, a public relations coup for Russian President Vladimir Putin after he discussed the crisis with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Trump, struggling to fill shortages of ventilators and personal protective equipment, accepted Putin's offer in a phone call on Monday. A Russian military transport plane left an airfield outside Moscow and arrived at New York's John F. Kennedy airport in late afternoon on Wednesday.

Emergency aid to Washington was a striking development. Usually, the United States donates supplies to embattled countries rather than accepting them. The origin of the gift was bound to revive criticism from Democrats that Trump has been too cozy with the Russian leader.

"Trump gratefully accepted this humanitarian aid," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was cited as saying by the Interfax news agency on Tuesday. Trump himself spoke enthusiastically about the Russian help after his call with Putin.

A U.S. official in Washington confirmed the shipment was a direct result of Trump's phone conversation with Putin. The official said it carried 60 tons of ventilators, masks, respirators and other items.

The official said the equipment would be carefully examined to make sure it comports with the quality requirements of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Russia's Rossiya 24 channel on Wednesday morning showed the plane taking off from a military air base outside Moscow in darkness. Its cargo hold was filled with cardboard boxes and other packages.

Adam Schiff has called for quarantining this plane so he can search for secret messages from Putin to Trump.

Adam Schiff: "The House will be launching a full investigation of this collusion between Donald Trump and the Russian Government, which is obviously political in nature and is intended to distract the American public from the massive unemployment that has been the result of the Trump regime's treasonous economic policies."

Detente and engagement. I like it. Perhaps the Russians can offer a perspective on treatment.

We took aid from all offering it after 911. Well all except the Saudi jihadist billionaire. It’s good for future US/Russian relations if sincere emergency aid flows in both directions as needed.

I know it’s in jest, but I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if there was some ‘investigation’ of this. I don’t think Bush Derangement Syndrome was real, but Trump Derangement Syndrome is totally real. The man is truly despised by the Left, and that goes beyond mere politics. For example, the Left never liked President Bush and often made fun of him - eg how cartoonists would draw him - but it was nowhere as bad as with President Trump. For example Pelosi tearing up the speech! Even if she may not respect President Trump she should have at least given the Presidency of the United States of America the respect that Seat deserves!

As effect as President Trump has been, I wonder just how much more effective he would have been if he was not being constantly detracted by the Left.

The ventilators looks like of 'Aventa' brand. These are made by JSC UPZ in Yekaterinburg, Russia. As for masks I don't think there are any Russian made. Every mask I have seen in Russia is of 3M make.

That was a MSNBC opinion piece, right? The media is really insane. They have no problem that China is sending aid. Isn’t that the country where the CHINA Virus originated?

Last time I know of the Russians helping us was when Leonid Brezhnev offered Richard Nixon the resources of the Soviet Navy if needed to rescue the Apollo 13 astronauts. Mr. Nixon thanked him but declined the offer.

I’m sure there have been other cases since then.

If American companies are currently ramping up production of this equipment, there may be spares to repay Russia as they may have need in the coming weeks or months.

America sends stuff to China and Russia sends stuff to America.
What is wrong with this picture?

America keeps it's own stuff and Russia, which is much closer to China, sends stuff to China.

Why the long distance, overseas transportation?
