The coronavirus and its devastating effect on the economy is giving an old idea new traction with leaders in both parties: trillions of dollars in infrastructure spending.
President Trump on Tuesday called for $2 trillion in new public works programs as a national economic lifeline, backing an idea promoted by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) just a day earlier. Rank-and-file lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have quickly joined the chorus, framing infrastructure as a commonsense strategy for creating jobs amid mass layoffs sparked by the fast-spreading coronavirus pandemic.
I think the Speakers right that infrastructure would be a good place to start because thats something thats the responsibility of the federal government to begin with, Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) said Tuesday on Fox Business, pointing to a bipartisan highway bill that a Senate committee advanced on a 27-0 vote.
In terms of the recovery, yeah, I think there might be some things that we need to do. What I dont want to do is to get out ahead of our skis and start making massive policy changes that reflect political extremes.
Infrastructure has been on Capitol Hills back burner for almost a year, after a brief and acrimonious White House meeting between Trump and Democratic leaders in May ended with the president lashing out at Pelosi and storming out of the room.

Interest rates are so low, he said, that now is the time to borrow the money and make those investments.
Infrastructure bill gains new steam as coronavirus worsens
.......
Where is this, “worsening”? or is it typical liberal desired projecting their wishes...?
Infrastructure is one of those “pay me now or pay me later” kinda things that has to be done, is incredibly expensive, and we’ve been kicking the can down the road for decades while existing infrastructure crumbled or became obsolete. The longer we keep putting it off, the steeper the bill is going to be when we eventually bite the bullet. The Senator is right. With interest rates effectively negative (adjusting for inflation) and the prospect off depression level unemployment, now is the time to deal with it.
Like FRAM Oil Filters.
This is gonna be a Democrat-dream bill with a lot of “money for illegals, money for Planned Parenthood, nationwide vote harvesting, etc”.
Brother, you've got that 100% spot on.
We better start calling the critters right now.
It has to be a clean bill for infrastructure only. Roads, bridges, etc.
No stipulations on union work, diversity, etc.
ALL of the money is spent in the USA. I'm not interested in building a road in China or anywhere else.
AND.
IT HAS TO BE POSTED FOR ALL OF THE COUNTRY TO READ FOR A MINIMUM OF TWO WEEKS.
THERE WILL BE A RECORDED VOTE ON THIS REQUIRING ALL MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE AND SENATE TO BE PRESENT.
No, no and no!! This country was in full production several weeks ago with the lowest unemployment rate in the history of the nation. Bringing the nation back to where we were should be our goal. No more stimulus needed.
WHERE iS THIS COVID19 WORSENING???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Yes more people are being tested, but damn.
Why would we need infrastructure bill? We did millions under Obama to build bridges, roads dams etc. where did all that money go?
Just like the coronovirus bill. Shovel ready.
Any infrastructure bill should include funding for every damn inch of the wall. Surely people can now see the need to control our borders.
Apparently the coronavirus has worsened to the point where it’s rolling around the landscape as a giant blob damaging the highways and bridges. Hence we need infrastructure spending to repair the damage caused by this runaway virus.
One thing infrastructure spending WON’T do is get more money in the pockets of all the businesses that have closed and their employees. Unless we permanently close those businesses, give them hardhats and let them join road crews, I guess?
The only spending we need is let every business that was forced to close apply for a grant to cover their lost income for the time period of the closure. Nothing else is relevant to the situation.
Get ready for ANOTHER Lucy/Football/Charlie Brown moment in American political history, FRiends
mcconnell and trump need to be proactive and push an infrastructure bill through the senate before pelosi can get her sjw-pork bill bill through the house. then with the senate infrastructure bill trump can get on the bully pulpit and thrash pelosi with lectures on economics and applied political philosophy (social contracts).
