COLUMBIA, S.C. (WMBF) – South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster issued an executive order on Monday that closes all public access points to the state’s beaches.

The executive order also closes all public boat ramps, landings and other access points on the state’s lakes, rivers and waterways.

“As a result of behavior observed this past weekend by the Department of Natural Resources and SLED, it has become necessary to close public access to our state’s beaches, and to close boat ramps and landings on our state’s lakes, rivers and waterways,”McMaster said.

“This is unfortunate for those who chose to responsibly follow the instructions of our public health officials, but it is a necessary action to prevent the spread of this dangerous virus.”

I am curious. Why does Beaufort Co. have the 2nd highest number of COVID-19 cases in SC?

Have no idea, but the fact that it has both a Marine base and a Navy hospital could be a factor.

Both would have service members who have recently been overseas.

‘Because 286,000 of your closest family, friends, neighbors and their kin, friends, and neighbors want to do the same thing at the same place, at the same time.’

recently I was informed, in rather taut language, that if I bicycled with a small group of friends, that I would be constituting a public safety hazard...I grant you make a good point, but too many people are taking this shaming thing way too far...

Since you have not yet received a reply, I will butt in.

I read somewhere that one of the theories in grounding everyone is:

Suppose you flipped your bike and hit your head on pavement. That would be serious enough for a trip to the emergency room. You would then be diverting a doctor’s time, a bed and other assets that might be needed for a wu-flu victim.

Worse, you would be exposed to the wu-flu under the worst possible conditions.

Unless you were riding in an area that is a hot spot, think that is a really disparate grasp for a straw. I am reading that there are many areas where hospital staff are being sent home because hospitals in their area are almost empty. People are staying away in droves.

So whether you are in SD or Long Island would make a difference.

Would it be illegal to go into the rivers in your boat? What about to beaches on uninhabited islands?

If you live on a river, can you go to a beach on an uninhabited island—or a sparsely inhabited island, Daufuskie for example?

So beaches are hotbeds of infection...

“Would it be illegal to go into the rivers in your boat? “

My understanding that is only public boat landings.

From Article
“The order doesn’t impact private property owners living on beaches, lakes, rivers or waterways.”

I own 200 feet of waterfront on Saluda River so it should not effect me. We sat out on the deck this weekend and fish. We do like to paddle up river and then float back to the house.

Getting ready to purchase some more river front to set up a HipCamp site to generate some income.

If you are riding three bikes abreast on the sidewalk with someone walking toward you, I would agree you constitute a public health hazard. No question about it.

A beach can be crowded and you are still six feet apart.

That is as logical as equating driving on Madison Ave, NYC, to driving on a country road in WVA

Actually, right now there probably is little difference.

I had no idea that our country has turned into a complete nanny state. Let me live a free life and if you want to hide under your bed and hope for the Government to provide for you, go for it.

Actually the whole thing is a fallacy.

If you are going to the grocery store, Lowe’s Home Improvement or the drug store, you might as well go anywhere....other than huge crowds such as you would find at a basketball game...or the auto show.

If you work in a factory, you are shouting in the face of a co-worker or he in yours, because most factories running heavy equipment have a noise level in the 100 decibel range. So you are spraying each other with every word.

So you are lucky and can stay home. OK, who delivered your paper? The mail? That mail came from 500 miles away and was handled by??

You have been fighting over TP. Finally got some. Was it handled from beginning to you by sterile hands protruding from a hazmat suit?

Of course I am not saying the heck with it, it is only a bad cold. What I am saying is that there are sensible means and foolish means of taking care of yourself.

I can’t think of anything more healthful than a walk on the beach on a nice day.

Stay clean. Allow no one in your house not a member of the family or a very close friend whose personal living conditions you know to be OK, go only to those places you need to go and try to frequent small well ventilated stores with low traffic.

Cancel all doctor appointments that are not life saving or for a condition that might lead to life threats.

I pull a list out of my shirt pocket every so often and look at it. About a fourth of a page long..things that I need to do. But none of them need to be done today...

And keep that six foot space.

Our Republican Governor (Alabama) closed all of our beaches weeks ago.

Prior to the closing of the beaches, a group of students from Wisconsin were visiting Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Unfortunately, many returned to Wisconsin with the Coronavirus.

But, before traveling to the Gulf, they made a stop in Nashville. I suspect that Nashville was the source of infection, not the Gulf.

On tonight’s news, they aired a video of a large group of partiers on boats off Orange Beach. They may have been staying on one of the private islands.

Personally, I was cheering them on and wishing I were with them. I see no harm in going to the beach and having a good time.

I agree with your post.
