When I worked from 1969-2017 I used to go to the local malls on a day off once in a while. I always saw hordes of people. When were they at work? Many: never. My father had a white collar position with a very large steel company. Every so many years he qualified for 13 weeks of paid vacation because that was what the union guys had negotiated.

His boss told him quite frankly that if he could do without him for 13 weeks he could do without him forever. Needless to say he never took that time.
