The purpose to fine art theft is not to sell the original.
.................
They sell the copies. Over and over, who would complain? To make money, the original is hidden away forever.
............
Usually there is an employee involved, a master forger and known and often prominent art dealers willing to fence the fakes.
..............
Once the word gets out that fakes are being sold, the original gets turned in for a no-questions-asked reward.
