The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the use of two anti-malaria drugs to treat patients infected by the new coronavirus.
On Sunday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) said in a statement that chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine could be prescribed to teens and adults with COVID-19 "as appropriate, when a clinical trial is not available or feasible," after the FDA issued an Emergency Use Authorization. (EUA) That marked the first EUA for a drug related to COVID-19 in the U.S., according to the statement.
Currently, there are no specific drugs for COVID-19 which, as shown in the Statista graph below (accurate as of March 26), has sickened over half a million people. According to Johns Hopkins University, over 720,000 cases have been confirmed, more than 34,000 people have died, and over 152,000 have recovered since the pandemic started in China late last year.

I glanced at the article in your link. Remember, people who live there don’t take anti malarials, so the 4,000 deaths a year in endemic areas aren’t locals they are visitors. Most “visitors” are going to be European who take the drugs to visit. The incidence of G6PD Def. In Europeans is expected to be much lower.

I know that the Lupus Foundation, anticipating a run on it said to members, “Stock up.” My friends thinking this was a good idea were denied a 90 day supply and freaked out! But nobody is doing without that I can find. Seem to be good for a month anyway.
Toilet paper may be a concern but everybody going to the pot has enough paper for immediate concerns.

Yes, I am in a sea of well paid leftists. It really gets them mad too. I was the only one in my neighborhood who put up a Trump-Pence sign in my window in 2016; there must have been 50 Hillary signs in the several blocks where I live but one neighbor accused me of being “opinionated”, i.e., I disagreed with the prevailing junk beliefs. I asked her if she had made the same accusation against her 50 neighbors with Hillary signs and she replied “why”. It also earned me a small rock through the bottom of my window, thrown in secret, at night, of course. On Animal Farm, some pigs are more equal than others.

Plaquenil is unlikely to be a drug the military would stockpile because it’s so old that Malaria has developed resistance against it worldwide ... there are multiple other much newer and more effective drugs against Malaria now ...

I hear ya. I live in the stupid People's Republik of Connecticut, a completely hopeless state that we hope to leave behind at some point fairly soon. LOL — It sounds like I live (Howard County Maryland) in the same type area as you. People who don’t live in such areas have no idea of the COMPLETE intolerance of many people. Folks here who are conservative frequently avoid things such as yard signs and bumper stickers to avoid vandalism. The funny thing is that many of the locals who strongly supported the election of our new County Commissioner (a black DemocRAT who replaced a SANE Republican) now are against the new policies he is having implemented. He is implementing “social justice busing” in the county to “spread the poor (and problem) students” to better schools. These folks are getting what THEY voted for... whether they like it or not.

I found on-line “People with underlying G6PD Def may have issues with consuming red wine, beans, blueberries, soya products, tonic water and camphor” Certainly not a definitive test but it could indicate one needs to get it checked out.
Symptoms, Jaundice, Dark urine, dizziness, shortness of breath, rapid heart rate.

Reminds me of Judge Arthur Garrity in Boston who ordered massive school busing directed at the working class Irish Americans in South Boston (the area has gentrified now). They had neighborhood, community schools they were very proud of. Well, Judge Garrity’s children all attended expensive private schools where they would not be exposed to the destruction of schools wrought by his crazy liberal decisions. I wonder how long he would have even considered such a s-pot decision if his own kids had to attend the Boston public schools.
Now that FDA oked the drug I read that millions of doses are being made.
