MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — With the coronavirus quickly spreading in Washington state in early March, leaders of the Skagit Valley Chorale debated whether to go ahead with weekly rehearsal.
The virus was already killing people in the Seattle area, about an hour’s drive to the south.
But Skagit County hadn’t reported any cases, schools and business remained open, and prohibitions on large gatherings had yet to be announced.
On March 6, Adam Burdick, the choir’s conductor, informed the 121 members in an email that amid the “stress and strain of concerns about the virus,” practice would proceed as scheduled at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church.
“I’m planning on being there this Tuesday March 10, and hoping many of you will be, too,” he wrote.
Sixty singers showed up. A greeter offered hand sanitizer at the door, and members refrained from the usual hugs and handshakes.
“It seemed like a normal rehearsal, except that choirs are huggy places,” Burdick recalled. “We were making music and trying to keep a certain distance between each other.”
After 2 1/2 hours, the singers parted ways at 9 p.m.
Nearly three weeks later, 45 have been diagnosed with COVID-19 or ill with the symptoms, at least three have been hospitalized, and two are dead.

Well they can’t tell if they got it from that church gathering then- 3 weeks is a long time- all those folks could have gotten it shopping for food, or eating out or whatever- no way to tell i don’t think if they all got sick at the rehearsal?
50% of them didn’t think so and stayed home.
I know Mt. Vernon and Skagit County having done the fair there for many years. Sad thing.

Won’t matter, the flubros have a bucket full of rationalizations that they pull out any time negative facts appear. I don’t know why we need epidemiologists....the flubros apparently know much more than they do, and have learned it all from the comfort of their couches.
It is true that there is a very critical (and very difficult) decision that must be made between fighting the virus and preserving the economy. No one disputes that. But far too many here have turned into full-blown conspiracy theorists, somehow believing that the entire world, including President Trump, has been fooled, that there is nothing serious about this, and that every doctor, researcher, and infectious disease specialist is either stupid or lying. Yet somehow the flubros possess the real knowledge, sitting on their couches.
It sounds exactly like the millennials who run around claiming 9/11 was a hoax, or that we never landed on the moon (an oldie, but one they have resurrected), or my favorite - that commercial jets run on compressed air, not fuel, and that airlines are lying when they say that they use combustion.
Well considering the age of this choir this was a really stupid move, how many times to you have to repeat to people that the elderly are a very high risk!! Washington was the epicenter for some time and this was extremely STUPID!!!

Oh goodness no- can’t be- a doctor was on water’s world telling everyone that 99% come from direct contact for over 20 minutes or so or something like that- and all we gotta do is wash our hands and we’ll be safe- couldn’t believe that doc was saying that, and that Jesse was hyping it- telling everyone ‘now pay attention, this is very important’ etc as the doc says we’re practically immune if we just wash our hands and keep our hands away from our faces- - practically every other doc is saying it is airborne and easily caught- and that particles can stay i n air for up to 3 hours- whether we touch our faces or not- just walking through a cloud of virus will end up giving a person the virus as they breath it in-
Yes, keeping our hands away from our faces is very important for every flu and virus- but a large number of folks get it just by benign i n same room with infected- who spew it into the air by breathing and nseezing-

Yes. But a number of them developed symptoms on the same day, apparently, and called around to each other to report , from what I gather from the article
