Speaking at a contentious White House coronavirus news briefing on Sunday that involved testy standoffs with multiple reporters, President Trump declared that "the peak in death rate" in the coronavirus pandemic "is likely to hit in two weeks," and said the federal government will be extending its social-distancing guidelines through April 30.
"The modeling estimates that the peak in death rate is likely to hit in two weeks. I will say it again. The peak, the highest point of death rates, remember this, is likely to hit in two weeks... Therefore, we will be extending our guidelines to April 30, to slow the spread," the president said in the White House Rose Garden.
Saying his earlier hope that the country could reopen by Easter was "just an aspiration," Trump added: "We can expect that by June 1, we will be well on our way to recovery" and that "a lot of great things will be happening."
When asked about worst-case scenarios if the country were to remain closed indefinitely, the president responded, "You're gonna have large numbers of suicides -- tremendous [numbers of] suicides... You will see drugs being used like nobody has ever used them before, and people are going to be dying all over the place."

Not much will be left to reopen at the end of April.
Most restaurants, especially the mom and pops, are never going to reopen. 1/3rd of this country will be unemployed. Savings will be wiped out. And people will be behind in rent and mortgages.
He needs to not keep raising expectations. It is better to lower them, & then when it is exceeded, it is a win.
To save us from what amounts to the common cold. Its not even an influenza virus which CAN be deadly to the masses.

Ioannidis properly refers mostly to SARS CoV2, which is the original name of COVID-19. I call it SARS 2.0. the original SARS resulted in 744 deaths worldwide. if SARS 2.0 ends with 10,000 or less US deaths, Ioannidis admits it might have been lost in the “bin” of the seasonal flu figures, except for the media.

We need to know how Fauci is going to measure the death rate. If a positive-testing deceased has a serious pre-existing condition, will the death be automatically listed as a Corona death? Will everyone who dies of a heart attack after testing positive go on the death list? Truth in labeling is the only option — no matter how many Phd.s a popular expert may have.

I agree, that if one just looks at the raw numbers, this isn’t as bad as yearly flu, but the reactions of virtually all world leaders tells me that this isn’t a scam but something that has them truly scared.
You and I are exactly on the same page. My goal is to save any citizen, even a rat, from fear. The easiest way is with numbers and logic...much easier with a republican. Have dinner with friends, share a bottle of wine and tell stories and laugh! It’s much more therapeutic than a mask.
