This is the most elitist, close minded article I've read about a liberal journalist trying to figure out why Trump's approval rating is high right now.

It's pretty ridiculous, so I thought I'd share.

I think it’s hillarious, the left had written President Trump’s political obituary (for the 3,000 time since he walked down the elevator and announced his candidacy), the week after the cornoavirus began. “This will be the nail in the coffin of his reelection! Trump’s Katrina!” And now Trump is at the highest approval point of his presidency in the realclearpolitics average. So now the left are screaming, “It’s only because he’s hogging the spotlight! Journalists, academics, and intellectuals tend to be idealists. They went into this line of work not because they wanted to be rich but because they wanted to make the world a better place in some way. This doesn't mean their ideas on improving things would always have positive outcomes if they were enacted, or that their favored policy proposals deserve to take priority in our public life. Not at all. But it does mean they tend to assume that most people will recoil from outright lies, deception, malice, injustice, sleaze, and thuggish imbecility when it is exposed and demonstrated to them.

This is classic! The author has bought the premise which justifies their hatred and simultaneously confuses them. Logic would lead a normal person to question what may be wrong with their premise and perception. In this case, the author accepts as fact that Trump is all...outright lies, deception, malice, injustice, sleaze, and thuggish imbecility. If the author ever examined this "accepted fact" and realized it is not universally accepted and largely emotionally driven, they may be less confused.

That is because their minds operate on pure Emotionalism and NOT Reason and Logic.

This cannot be overstated. This simply cannot be said often enough or loud enough.

This sums up political discourse in the West; on the Left are the emotional thinkers and on the Right are the rational thinkers. (It doesn't mean that there aren't those on the Left who don't often think rationally and it doesn't mean that there aren't those on the Right who don't often think emotionally, but in general terms, I think that this is most certainly the single reason for the divide.)
