Why do this and cite public safety? It is not the fault of anyone who works for the Park Service. I am not at all faulting them, just another by product of mass hysteria.
Is this nationwide?
The reason for this is to protect the rescue people who have to retrieve injured, lost and dead people from these areas.
Rescue people are being used in communities now and don’t need to be chasing around searching for people in the wilds.
They don’t want people escaping to there and playing Lord of the Flies.
Another great example of why relying on the government to do the most intelligent thing is a bad idea. Plenty of things being done today are exactly the right idea in the face of a potentially severe epidemic. Closing wilderness areas is not in that category.
If I can be trusted to stay 6 feet away at Costco.........without a need to be tasered......
..........
Can’t I be trusted outdoors?
Are they afraid we gona eat weird bats?
Public land my arse. This is government land
Yes, stay out of the wilderness. Go to New York City where it is entirely safe under the capable leadership of mayor De Blasio.
I hope while the good sheep and chickens are cooped up in their pens and houses, the farmers and their dogs are on the hunt for wolves and weasels.
Its like the video I saw yesterday of two cops harassing a surfer in the ocean (in Italy). The beach was empty, as was the ocean, and the guy was hundreds of feet out, surfing. Talk about social distancing.”
All the Nat’l parks closed a week ago.
I’ve read that they aren’t servicing any of the restrooms, as part of the decision.Right before they closed they went “free of charge” - then said that was making the parks too crowded and they stopped it.
Some parks have tourist type buses that normally take people thru the park to help save the park from tourist environmental destruction and they had to stop those buses.
I don’t really understand it all.
My understanding is the Park Service had information that certain wildlife was adamant that Humans and their stinking China Virus disease be kept out of the forests.
Did the Ranger come within 6ft of you?
... Despite park efforts over the last week to comply with the Centers for Disease Controls guidance for social distancing, approximately 30,000 people entered the park daily resulting in congested conditions at popular locations such as Laurel Falls, Newfound Gap, and Cades Cove....
I used to be a media contractor for the NPS. I ASSURE you, this is a play for paid leave and nothing more. The admin is filled with self-important bureaucrats.
In areas where people live near by parks have been thronged by visitors all of whom plan on getting away somewhere where theres no people and creating huge snarls of people who can infect each other.
This is the same stupidity that has “officials” telling us that Wyoming is the worst at improving their social distancing.....(least densely populated in the lower 48)
An NIH study concluded that the major causative agent of bear attacks on humans was the existence of human beings, who are also causing global climate change - causing bears to get angry and attack.
BTW..is it just me or are the Government Wilderness areas always closing down for almost any reason?
