Anna Jones* had just finished her shift at St. Rose Hospital in Las Vegas, where she works as an emergency-room nurse, when she received an email from her landlord labeled “Quick Action Needed.” Her landlord—a quiet, older woman who lived downstairs from Jones and her husband—informed her that she would need to vacate the premises within 24 hours. The reason, she said, was COVID-19.

It's a free country, any one who wants to keep potential disease vectors away from themselves and their family should be allowed to do so. If the liberal media wants to shelter these "heroes" why don't they have them stay in their houses.

Unless the contract does not allow such an eviction.

Every state has restrictions on evictions, be it a 7 day notice for failure t9,pay rent, or having to go to court t9 get an eviction notice”. If the people are not in default on their lease, the owner has no grounds to evict. People should call the local legal aid society.

This is the inevitable result of mass stupidity. The landlords are doing exactly what this media-driven hysteria is telling them to do.

If we refuse to house those who care for us when we are ill, then they have the right to refuse to care for those sick who “threaten their lives” with this plague. Soon nobody will help or care for anybody else. This is wrong.

I am a landlord in Florida. Gosh,I wish it was that easy. It costs around $600 and has never taken less that 45 days. And if the rent has been paid, that is enough reason for a judge to deny eviction.

I call fake news.

I suppose if this is legally allowed the only thing the tenant can do is return the keys to the landlady personally and give her a firm handshake to confirm the breaking of the lease.

That’s a lawsuit waiting to happen.

If proper hygiene is followed, it’s not an issue.

This sounds like a duplex or two-family house. In my state, most laws related to rental housing only apply to dwellings with three or more housing units.

I'd be curious to see how that would apply in Nevada.

What's interesting is that the terms of a lease might actually allow for the abrogation of the lease in the event of a "dire emergency" of some kind ... and the political leadership of this country has given every landlord the legal cover to cancel their leases.

Normally, it should have to end at a month break. Rent is paid up front. If a renter breaks an agreement, they are out the money. I’m not sure how a landlord is able to evade losing apartment “time” in the same manner.

I agree that the landlady is within her rights, but jeepers ... make your health care providers homeless, on top of all the other things they're dealing with these days. Within her rights, but heartless and unpatriotic as hell.

I get it, she's scared of the virus. So is her tenant. So is my wife (an ER doc). So am I.

This story is actually from the Daily Beast so it’s suspect right off the bat. The content proves it to be utter BS.

If the landlord gets the virus, hopefully the hospital the tenant works at will give only bare minimum care. It’s all they’re legally obligated to do.

Perhaps the Americans with Disabilities act would apply here? Don’t know.

This article is TOTAL BS. I am a landlord in LV, NV. This article is another total smear against landlords and small businesses. It’s another prop in their “don’t pay rent, don’t pay mortgage, don’t pay tuition, don’t repay your loan” storylines designed to destroy business and the economy. Commie trash. Why don’t we tar and feather the landlords and steal their property like they did in the Chinese communist revolution??

Pretty obvious you have zero understanding of tenant/landlord law, I don’t live in Vegas, but I bet you this landlord just violated all sorts of state laws to say the least....

You can evict someone for non payment, for illegal activities, and other things, but you can’t just evict someone because you feel like it. If this tenant is on a month to month lease, or their lease lease is expiring you can decide not to extend their lease.. but the lease is a 2 way street... Landlord can’t just break it because they feel like it.

Obviously LV may have different laws, but I don’t it... sounds to me that, this landlord is setting themselves up for a world of hurt.

That’s a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Landlord should just sign over the property deed now. It will be cheaper than where his stupidity is leading him to go.

When you choose to rent your property it is now the tenants home. Don't want the consequences of that, then don't rent.
