Hong Kong reported 65 new coronavirus infections on Friday, its biggest daily rise so far, taking the total number of cases in the Chinese-ruled city to 518, health officials said.
Of the latest cases, 41 had recently returned from traveling abroad.

I’m sorta seeing it this way, worldwide:
If they say there are 500 new cases, it’s because they tested 500 more people. I figure that before this thing is over, pretty much everyone will test positive. Fortunately, it seems to be just another strain of the flu. Who knows if it was actually around last year, but everybody just thought it was the “normal” flu, that had a higher death rate, BTW.

The other countries that took Coronavirus seriously (Singapore and Taiwan) also have the same problem. They have to let their citizens come back home, but now they’re getting infected just by being in the West.
The problem with a lot of people getting this thing isn’t that it will wipe out half the population. It won’t.
It WILL overwhelm hospitals possibly and even the young and strong who survive seem to need ventilators in a number of cases.
That leaves the old and sick screwed.
But I think the past several weeks Americans have done a good job of not spreading it and by Easter, like Trump said, we can start getting things back to normal a little at a time.
Or I could be completely wrong.
What do I know? i’m stuck in the house eating Genoa salami and watching The Godfather 300 times. :)

I think you are about right. On Easter many families should be able to send one adult to church. Keep the children away.

I believe 25% or more of the world’s population will test positive. This stuff has been around for months and the tests done weeks ago are now beginning to return.

Abroad, I think, means university students from Europe and the US.
No, they're talking about college students and/or tourists returning from the United States and Europe.
Movement between China and Hong Kong is not considered leaving the country.
Doesn’t sound that serious, but the media needs to dribble-out the news of more cases just to keep the fear going.
I believe Johnny Carson said something like this:
“They can find 3 fruit flies in a tree in Malibu and they can’t find 11M illegals living in CA”
So much for the ‘warm weather kills it’ theory.
This is the result of the simple logic of isolation, containment and then removing isolation.
If you very successful at isolation, then you will keep the number of cases down. Once you do away with social distancing the cases will again erupt because there’s always some residual virus running around ready to infect the previously locked down population.
It’s simple logic. Social distancing is good for not overwhelming the medical system, and for gaining time but doesn’t fix the problem long term. The only solutions are either everybody gets and whoever dies dies and whoever lives lives, or a vaccine or other meds that will kill this bastard.
Do we know that the author is not trying to mislead us?
"Abroad" may genuinely have that meaning in Hong Kong - but I'll bet that there is a far heavier traffic flow between HK and the Mainland, and those bringing the virus were coming from the Mainland.

Completely agree. I see it like death. Everybody dies, but we would rather we don’t all die at once, overwhelming the gravediggers. :)

What if late this year the then latest mutation of Cov-19 raises its ugly head in mainland China again and there are attempts of mass exodus from China to Taiwan and Hong Kong??? What will happen, politically??? In China.
