The Florida man who claims his severe coronavirus case was cured overnight by an anti-malaria drug touted by President Trump says hes feeling good a week later but has warned others not to try the dangerous drug at home.
Rio Giardinieri, 52, said he returned to his Miami Shores home Tuesday night and is recovering well after being prescribed hydroxychloroquine, according to Yahoo News.
Man, Im alive and kickin, Giardinieri told the outlet. Feeling good.
But he warned people not to take the game-changing drug without a doctors consent.
The one thing that scares me to death is people taking these stories and going out and self-diagnosing and self-medicating, said Giardinieri. They cant do that. Theyve got to go to a doctor.
He said he has received messages on social media from people asking him how to take hydroxychloroquine.
Im like, No no. You got this wrong. Its a dangerous drug. Dont take this unless its being prescribed and you get your dosage based on your weight and your size and how your body reacts, he said.
His warning comes after an Arizona man died from ingesting an additive used to clean fish tanks the pharmaceutical drug version of which was touted by Trump as a potential coronavirus cure.
Last week, doctors at the Memorial Regional Hospital in South Florida diagnosed Giardinieri with the coronavirus and put him on oxygen in the ICU.

Did the President tell people to self-prescribe and self-medicate?
Well...duh
No $#!+...
Guess you have to warn the stupid ones before they drink fish tank cleaner.
Probably has children too. Just damn...
You have to have it prescribed. Another moron runs their mouth.

Did the President tell people to self-prescribe and self-medicate?
Did the President tell people to self-prescribe and self-medicate?
(worth repeating)
They are pushing this to obscure last week's Fake News that Trump was wrong about this drug showing promise against COVID 19.
DID THE PRESIDENT TELL PEOPLE TO SELFMEDICATE USING FISH TANK CLEANER? WHAT A MAROON.
And yet they won’t allow it to be used on patients.
No ship, Sherlock.
NO it is not "the pharmaceutical drug version," it was chloroquine phosphate, not hydroxychloroquine which is the FDA approved medication.
.
In defense of Mr. Giardinieri, he does live in Florida, and those that follow the "Florida man" stories know that there are probably some people in Florida that needed to hear Mr. Giardinieri's advice. Otherwise they might just go out back, sacrifice a chicken, brew up a batch of moonshine with pool cleaner added, and chug it down. And then climb into the canal at midnight to wrestle with the alligator they saw earlier in the day.
You cant get hydroxychloroquine without a prescription.
The hurt people self medicated with aquarium bleach.
Ive heard several people claim that Plaquenil caused the Darwin Award deaths this week. Its to the point that I give up explaining that the couple ingested fish tank cleaner.
The media needs an old fashioned Nuremberg trial when this is over.
I thought it was a good article.
This drug (or drug combination) apparently works for a lot of people - so it is good to emphasize that it can be dangerous if taken haphazardly - as the dose is dependent on weight, and other factors. And thus it should be taken under a professional's (MD) directions.
The man who died by self-medicating with aquarium cleaner should have been enough of a warning - but a re-emphasis doesn't hurt. Particularly as I expect we'll see more reports of this drug's success (and an increase in the temptation to self-medicate).
I don't doubt that most of the Media will spin anything to tar the President, but in this case I just took it as additional warnings to get out to the public.
