The Senates massive economic stimulus deal to counteract the coronavirus includes a massive bailout for New Yorks transit system and a ban on aid for President Trumps holdings and those of members of Congress.
The lesser-known provisions were stuffed into the $2 trillion package during marathon negotiations between Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York and Republicans, which ended early Wednesday in a deal.
Schumers office said Democrats won a $150 billion boost in hospital funding, a $150 billion relief fund for state and local governments and $25 billion for transit systems.
Of the transit dollars, $4.35 billion is earmarked for New York state, of which $3.8 billion is earmarked for New Yorks Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Schumers office said.
The MTA, which operates city buses and the subway, is cutting service as demand plunges. Subway ridership is down nearly 90 percent.
The ban on aid to Trump family businesses was heralded by Schumer in an early-morning letter to colleagues. He said the $500 billion business loan program run by the Treasury Department will have an inspector general for oversight and a ban on money flowing to Trump, whose businesses brought in $461 million in revenue in 2018.

The final bill, which still has to be written ahead of an anticipated vote Wednesday, also boosts max unemployment pay by up to $600 a week, which Schumer said in a floor speech Tuesday means that furloughed workers can essentially get a full paycheck for four months during the crisis.

It doesn't. It also covers Pence, senior members of the administration (sorry, Jared and Ivanka), and members of the House and Senate.
Id rather find out how sausage is made. Id still probably eat it before I swallowed the final product from Congress.
“Seriously, two years ago? What kind of BS is that?”
Most 2019 tax information hasn’t been filed yet. That would make 2018 the most recent.
That crap was left in the bill? Disappointing if true.
“my former company is now making a fortune on Coronavirus testing.”
Maybe they’re in a position to bring you back? Really. Have you checked?
Hear ! Hear !
I’m an IT manager, so not likely. (I am in contact with many of my former coworkers, so I would know.) My layoff was part of a recurring cost-cutting initiative, which had been happening on a regular basis for about 5 years. I expect that initiative will resume as soon as the Coronavirus cash stops rolling in.
Don’t know!
The final bill will be a “political solution” not an optimal one. We will just have to live with it & get things back to close to normal. Get Trump re-elected then counter-attack! That’s end goal.
“Get Trump re-elected then counter-attack! Thats end goal.”
And pray that we get both the Senate and House, too. I’m preparing to see SHOCK AND AWE if that happens. Trump will have no mercy — I hope.
Yes, but congresscritters don't, for the most part, actually own businesses that make money. What they do is have "foundations", which I am quite sure are able to collect this largess of the U.S. Taxpayer. They also launder money through their families and other dodges such as real estate.
This is nothing but a shot directly at Trump who has the audacity of actually being a successful businessman. That's how petty these cretins are.
Banning any of Trumps businesses from taking advantage of aid generally available to other businesses smacks of an unconstitutional Bill of Attainder to me. It will not stand even cursory examination in the courts if the companies so discriminated against sue, and they are independent companies that are just owned by Trump and his family. Why should HIS employees suffer because Democrats are butt hurt?
it says per taxpayer, but if you file jointly is the income separated per taxpayer or are you boned because AGI is combined?
This is stupid!
Saw somewhere else that a person needed to have either filed taxes in 2018 or 2019 to receive it.
They are using that to track people down yo give them this.
The main thing i want to know is there a provision for stopping the money from gong out IF this turns out to be far less worse than we thought.
Or, the anti-malaria medicine works.
The are spending money like we a week away from the possible end of the world and this is our only hope of survival?
Which i do not believe it is..NOT EVEN CLOSE.
Where do you get that 2500 in earnings from?
It was written all over the place 6 days ago. Try roll call. Dont know if its in final bill but probably. Like I said the devil is in the details. I think the 2500 min is unfair. You want to help poor people min ck of 600.
