Three Republican senators are warning that they will oppose the $2 trillion coronavirus response package unless a massive drafting error in the legislation, that they say will create an incentive for employers to lay off employees, is fixed.
Fox News is told the concern is that the current version could pay workers more in unemployment benefits than they're currently making, by sticking a $600 per week payment on top of ordinary benefits that are calculated as a percentage of income. This could disrupt the labor market further, the lawmakers warn.
"A massive drafting error in the current version of the coronavirus relief legislation could have devastating consequences: Unless this bill is fixed, there is a strong incentive for employees to be laid off instead of going to work. This isnt an abstract, philosophical point -- its an immediate, real-world problem, Sens. Tim Scott, R-S.C., Ben Sasse, R-Neb., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said in a statement.

He said that they are working on an amendment to fix the problem that would mean that the maximum unemployment benefit is 100 percent of someones salary,...

Under this law, if I heard the fake news right, you would be eligible for UI if laid off due to the daramabug.
Are Democrat provisions to guarantee voter fraud still in the package?
If you are making $250 your benefit is $87 + $600.
Yep, I posted last night that the Dems plan is to use this crisis to introduce Perma-Unemployment benefits (i.e., you make more money off government bennies than working, so why bother working?)
Thank you for posting. There is so much all around of people acting like pigs near a trough, so your note was a welcome relief.

UNEMPLOYMENT payments were always intended as being a TEMPORARY help between jobs. It doesn’t pay the same as your net paycheck-—but you are NOT commuting to work—or buying lunches—or purchasing clothes, etc.
This kind of calculation is totally Democrat crap.
There would be NO incentive for people to go back to work.
Worse than the current welfare & ‘DISABILITY ( ???) payments.
There are already too many ways that people are scamming the system & NOT working at all & living higher on the hog than many who ARE working when things are normal.
He said for some it’ll work out to $24/hr
Meanwhile I doubt anything will go to the self employed, because they’re not ‘unemployed’ when no one buys their stuff, they don’t stand in unemployment lines.
Agreed these things should be a few pages long but with 100 Congress critters and 535 House reps that is alot of legislators PLUS their staff that can put stuff like this together.
Add in wide margins, double spaced lines, and all these HUGE section titles and you get to 500 pages in no time.

BINGO! Notice how "drafting errors" and so-called "mistakes" always favor the DemonRat agenda, never the conservative agenda.
No, you would get the max state payment, $275 + $600 in federal payments, even if your last job only paid $450 a week.
Assuming that $450 a week would get you max payment. I don’t know what the actual number is.
Yep.
“No, you would get the max state payment, $275 + $600 in federal payments, even if your last job only paid $450 a week.”
You are a known troll so I should ignore you. But you are so wrong.
According to the official Tennessee web site the benefit would be ....
$84.00
“Assuming that $450 a week would get you max payment. I dont know what the actual number is.”
Translation: BoT is trolling.
Pound sand asshole.
That’s still a hell of a lot more than $450 a week, isn’t it?
this is how republicans lose the argument...dems were gettin hammered about what they tried to pull the last few days...and republicans give them the hammer right back over these unemployment payments..unreal. This goes only to workers that were LAID OFF!!!... a 2 TRILLION DOLLAR package and they are worried about 600 dollar payments to laid off workers??...there goes any chance of getting the house back...dems and media will bludgeon them with this....
