The education system in the US has a respect gap. It isn’t racist. When students and parents enforce respect of all others everyone wins.
In our inner city school district, the uniformly young liberal white women teachers are “The Man” to the black kids.

There are “People (cultures) of the Book” (an Islamic term) with a broader meaning. I once read that Israel publishes more books than the entire Islamic world. There are cultures in which reading is a main source of enjoyment. There are other cultures in which noise is.
