Producing the machines is the easy part. It is the human infrastructure that is the problem. If there are 30,000 ventilators up and running then you need an additional 45,000 ICU qualified nurses and an additional 22,500 Respiratory Therapy Technicians. (I am assuming one ICU nurse can handle two patients per shift. There are three eight hour shifts per day. I am assuming that one Respiratory Therapy Tech can handle 8 ventilators per shift and there are three eight hour shifts per day).
Along with the ventilators and the nurses and the respiratory techs you will also need oxygen, vacuum and forced air lines for each ventilator station. The nurses and techs also will have to put on new personal protection gear and respirators for each patient encounter (normally, a nurse assigned to a patient can last about three hours in a PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) suit and mask). There is another major complication to consider–every time the nurse goes in and out of the patient room then the nurse (or tech) must put on and then take off the personal protection gear. This can be time consuming if done properly.
As of Tuesday morning, New York State had 25,665 cases. Here is what we do not know:
What percent of people who are tested positive for Corona are admitted to a hospital? What percent of those admitted to a hospital are then placed in a Critical Care or Intensive Care unit? If all who test positive for Corona are admitted to the hospital then you can see how the existing hospital capacity can be quickly overwhelmed.

A few days ago the MSM were touting this guy as a possible 2020 candidate. Probably not now with his pleading and outright begging to the president for ventilators. He’s in over his head and rattled. He’s hardly the calm and collected Cuomo that was being touted over the weekend.
If nothing else, the ‘pandemic’ has served to put a glaring light on JUST how incompetent, selfish, superficial, puerile and 'out-of-their-depth' these so-called leaders really are.

What percentage of people with symptoms admitted to the hospital are tested?
The aren't enough tests for the general population. The tests need to be reserved for those with enough symptoms in a hospital. If a positive indication, then additional steps need to be taken.
Another good question: What percentage of tested are positive for Corona (COVID-19)?
The answer is about 10%. This is another reason the test should only be administered to those with the symptoms and medical/staff personnel directly involved.
This morning Cuomo is on FOX, CNN and now CSPAN2. Telling us all what to do and griping about Trump not building NY hospital beds and giving NY 40,000 ventilators and health supplies. People of NYC are leaving NYC and carrying the virus to other states especially FL. He points a blaming finger while seeming to be running for president. If he knows so much what needs to be done why has NY become the epicenter of COVID19 and the Achilles heel of America.
You might want to look at the numbers. Even President Trump knows that things are going to get pretty ugly in NYC. Here is Gov Coumo’s data (comma-separated). FR does not permit users to attach an image of the plot. You will see that it is an exponential increase. I live in Upstate NY. Happily, we have many fewer cases.

This was an op-ed that appeared in the Boston Herald last week. Cuomo passed on buying 16,000 respirators in 2015 which would of cost over a half billion to the state, but he poured $750 million in state assets on a solar energy project called the Buffalo Billion, a program rife with corruption, so much so that Cuomo’s top aide was convicted in federal court for bribery and corruption charges. Think the media will ask Andrew about this when the Wuhan Flu sweeps through NYC?

This is reason #1 why Cuomo won’t run for president. He would abandon NY and be seen as utterly callous and despicable. He is going to be needed there for at least three more months.
