AUSTIN, Texas (CBSDFW.COM/CNN) On Monday, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick insisted hes all in on lifting social distancing guidelines amid the coronavirus pandemic in order to get the economy back up-and-running despite the fact that he and other senior citizens remain at high risk of contracting the deadly disease.
Patrick, who said he turns 70 next week, said people like him have to weigh the hazards to their personal health that the virus poses with the challenges to health of the American economy brought on by social distancing guidelines.
No one reached out to me and said, As a senior citizen, are you willing to take a chance on your survival in exchange for keeping the America that all America loves for your children and grandchildren? And if that is the exchange, Im all in, Patrick told Fox News.
He added, My messages is that lets get back to work, lets get back to living. Lets be smart about it and those of us who are 70+, well take care of ourselves. But dont sacrifice the country.

The point of social distancing is to SLOW THE SPREAD SO THAT THE MEDICAL SYSTEM DOES NOT GET OVERWHELMED.
If you are hell bent on ignoring that then stay the fuck home when you get infected.
The SPREAD OF WHAT A COMMON COLD? All elderly and those at risk should be isolated and let the rest of us LIVE!!! FREEDOM!!!!
The media is taking what he said out of context, saying he’s calling for assisted suicide of the elderly.
Fine. So you dont need to go to a hospital or a doctor.
You cant have it both ways.
Bravo, well said.
I cannot imagine how people could be pioneers, astronauts, or servicemen and women in battle now.
Those boys in landing craft on D-Day fought in shirt sleeves. They went into battle without a guarantee they’d survive.
Ditto Gettysburg
Ditto Mogadishu
Ditto Fallujah
Ditto Benghazi
Pick your battle.
Ya got a deal
Send all journalists home on quarantine.
What are you talking about? 99% of people are at low risk. Those at high risk can and should have access to medical treatment IF NEEDED. Isolate THEM instead of turning society on it’s head is the only thing that makes sense; UNLIKE YOU.
My hubby is working from home.
He’s high risk.
Neither of us expect the country to stay home to protect him.
Let the younger, healthier be out and about. The rest of us can hunker down for a while.
There’s no need to burn the village to save it.
Sorry my friend, but we who not cowered by this virus are NOT the ones overwhelming the system. It is the snowflake hypochondriacs who have to run to the ER or demand a new vaccine every time they get a runny nose or a fever that are the problem. You should be directing your capital letters to them, not us.
They believe this is the rare chance for the death cult (Dems) to display moral superiority
We know better
Old people should shut up and die so their grandchildren can
enjoy even more material comforts.
This, lesser, Dan Patrick is a psycho.
Let’s hope this statement ages well.
What stupidity. Turing society upside down will do nothing to stop the spread of COVID to the elderly and infirmed who should be under isolation ANYWAY.
Testing and treatment, with the an emphasis on testing is key to this transition. We should follow the South Korean model.
See how scummy CBS twists the situation in the headline to attack the LTGOV?
He reminds me of all those motorcycle riders who don't think they need helmets. We call them "two-wheeled organ donors." Or, better yet, he's the poster child for "Hold ma beer and watch this!" The sad thing is, what he suggests will pass the virus on to others.
The Lt Gov is correct, you are being twit.
The flu doesn’t incapacitate the healthcare system. Minus a miracle cure, lifting containment measures without all our ducks in a row (i.e. hospital overflows, equipment, staff) would be disasterous on every front. That said, we can’t do what we’re doing indefinitely, so we best be getting those ducks in line post haste (such an event should’ve been prepared for decades ago).
