As stories of young people infected by COVID-19 being placed on ventilators -- or worse -- continue to multiply in news headlines and on Twitter feeds, officials are faced with the dire task of getting the message through to the younger generations.
For weeks, young Americans have been instructed to practice social distancing, stay home, and to cancel Spring Break plans as the nation aims to stifle the spread of COVID-19.
But somewhere along the line, the message seems to have been lost.

Headline does not in any way square with what Dr. Birx said at the press conference last night.

The message wasn’t “lost” it was ignored.
Youth ignore a lot of good advice, but they are also quite quick to identify BS like this. It is well known who is at risk, and this lame, sudden push stinks to high heaven. Anyone with a functioning brain cell can see this scam perpetrated by scared rich, old people.
Not true. As of today, CFR is 0.2% worldwide for ages 10-19. I think there are as yet no reported deaths under the age of 10.
That's why the old guys consider them cannon fodder.
Trying to scare them into compliance.

One in five cases end up in the ICU. Yes, 75% of those will eventually recover, but in the meantime they’ve taken up massive amounts of O2 and possibly occupied ventilators, thus overtaxing our hospitals. I spoke with my sister early this morning on her way to the hospital (she is a physician at a western hospital I am not going to name)...she has a 31-year old male patient in ICU right now with ARDS who has tested positive for COVID-19. There are too many people on this board who are repeating, falsely, that this disease doesn’t affect those under 50—it manifestly does.

The immaturity of today’s youth is hard to believe. The youth from the World War II era manifested a maturity way beyond their years.
I don’t think people are saying youth are not affected by Covid...just that youth don’t get as sick...the regular flu is more deadly for youth (for all, actually)

Actually, according to today’s figures, for the 10-19 age group, COVID-19 is twice as deadly as the regular flu (0.2% vs. 0.1%).
...and no, the regular flu is not deadlier for all ages than COVID-19. With no comorbidities, as of today and for all ages, the coronavirus is 9x deadlier than the common flu:
