Very soon after the coronavirus hit America, reports emerged that chloroquine, an older malaria drug, and its analogue, hydroxychloroquine, were helpful against the virus, especially when used in conjunction with azithromycin, an antibiotic. Trump expressed a strong hope that these drugs would effectively treat those with serious coronavirus cases.
The media reflexively struck back. They first accused Trump of lying about the drugs' potential value. Now that it's become clear that Trump was accurate, the media have a new tactic, which is to present chloroquine as a deadly drug that will kill more than it cures. For the media, it's never about the actual issue; it's always about "getting" Trump.
On Sunday, American Thinker ran Andrew Longman's excellent summary of chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine, and azithromycin. Before reading this post, you might want to refresh your knowledge by reading that article. The takeaway is that these drugs have been around for a long time, so doctors are familiar with them; that there's an increasing body of evidence that they work; and that the Trump administration got the FDA to allow doctors to prescribe them "off-label" or for "compassionate use" (that is, for a purpose other than treating malaria). (Just two recent examples of successful chloroquine use are here and here.)
On Saturday, Trump tweeted out his hope that hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin, when taken together, could save lives. Please note that he didn't say they "would" save lives, just that they had a "real chance" to change the outcome:

Despite the "self-medicating" bit, which is clear in the tweet, the story gained traction as an anti-Trump diatribe when a blue-checked doctor tweeted out the same Axios story:

What Axios neglected to report is that the man and his wife didn't merely "self-medicate." According to the hospital website, the couple went the extra mile when they "ingested chloroquine phosphate, an additive commonly used at aquariums to clean fish tanks." Nobody can allege with a straight face that Trump told them to do that.
Naturally, Vice had to get in on the act. It ran a story with the headline, "People in Nigeria Are Poisoning Themselves With Chloroquine after Trump Said It Was a Cure for Coronavirus: The president won't stop hyping the untested 'cure,' even after Dr. Anthony Fauci and the commissioner of the FDA warned it's unproven." Except Trump never said it was a cure. He said he hoped it would be and that he had a good feeling that it could be the answer. That fools self-medicate is not Trump's fault.
Nevertheless, all the usual people afflicted with Trump Derangement Syndrome piled on. The following tweet is representative, since it's a twofer, with both Laurence Tribe, a chronic embarrassment to the once great history of Harvard Law School, and George Conway, Kellyanne Conway's shrill husband, chiming in:
The media are zealots. They don’t care one iota about the people, with the one exception that they either may be subscriber$ or that they may be influenced to vote a certain way.

1) No one in Nigeria is blaming Trump.
2) CNN’s headline extrapolates Trump is responsible for Nigerians misusing chloroquine ( this is the conclusion lazy people take without reading the article in its entirety ).
3) You will die when you overdose on the drug. Of course, many commonly used and effective drugs can kill if you overdose on them. Nobody is telling patients to take the drug by themselves without Physician oversight and superstition.
But CNN does not mention it. Any lazy person who just glosses over the headline will get the impression that Trump is touting false hope and a harmful scam.
A more honest article headline would have been this: Nigeria records three deaths from chloroquine overdose
(this simple fact is there in the first paragraph of the article, but CNN wants to tie it to Trump ).

Hopefully a federal employee at NIH or the FDA speaks Italian and can phone a Milan hospital.
Think about that headline and what it actually means.
This crop of the media are enemies of the people. Hyperbolic? No, I really believe this now.
Malaria drugs have gotten used often.
The rates of their side effects are well-known.
The media, and Shoomer and Pelousi, want 100,000 American dead, millions of lost jobs, and trillions in lost wealth just to drive Trump from office. If that doesn’t work, they will hope for the arrival of the baby-eating lizard aliens, whom they would gladly help lay waste to American cities to try to accomplish the same thing.
Or they will just assassinate him.

If they were diagnosed with CV and could barely breathe, and the doctor offered them hydroxychloroquine, would they turn it down? If it worked, it would mean Trump had a point. Such a dilemma.
True. If it would mean the end of President Trump, the media would be willing to see the population reduced to 1803 numbers. Getting rid of President Trump is the number one goal of the media. No matter the price. As long is it is not them.
Obviously Trump had pretty solid info from doctors before making his comments. Cuomo is right there with him.
The media are scum. Seditious, actually.

Of course, we Freepers already knew this, but one thing this crisis has brought out is just how evil and corrupt the monica media really is. They’re bought and paid for by the Chinese and globalists. Americans aren't very familiar with the scourge of malaria. They don't understand the data numbers [millions annually] involved.
The next drug treatment this principle should be applied to is naltrexone, the time-release form of naloxone. People know naloxone as Narcan. The FDA approves use of naltrexone for treating opioid overdose. However, hundreds of people across America are using low doses of naltrexone for treating various autoimmune diseases. Ongoing high doses of naltrexone present health risks, but long-term use of low doses have been shown to be safe. The treatment is known as low-dose naltrexone (LDN).
Prescribing off-label use of LDN subjects doctors to career-ending criminal prosecution. The obstacle standing in the way of FDA testing and approving LDN comes from the chemical pathways which LDN exposes. The fact that LDN works against opioids and against autoimmune disease says that people must be ingesting harmful opioids regularly. And that’s exactly what they are doing.
Besides drugs the FDA is responsible for approving foods, and LDN approval says that some of the FDA’s approved foods are harming some people. Besides this, medical operators and doctors have erected a huge multi-million dollar industry around the approved medical treatment of autoimmune disease. FDA approval of LDN for autoimmune disease threatens this industry as well as the careers of the practicing physicians.
Russia 1, Russia 2, Russia 3, Kavanaugh, Impeachment, ChiCom Flu ... they don’t stop. Does it motivate Rat voters besides their base to go to the polls? Trump has been positive throughout. That motivates me more than wanting to beat Rats. But beating Rats comes in a close second.
