Who is Our John Galt?
American Thinker ^ | March 24, 2020 | Howard J. Warner

Who is John Galt? In 1957 Ayn Rand published her final novel, Atlas Shrugged. This magnum opus describing her philosophy of “objectivism” sought to call attention to the danger of socialism and communism and demonstrate the virtues of freedom and capitalism. Rand came to America from Russia following the 1917 communist revolution led by Lenin, which destroyed the social norms.

Who is John Galt? He is the leader of the resistance to the statists of a dystopian United States. Galt has created the intellectual and emotional genesis for unravelling the suffocating government. He has secretly organized leaders of the private corporate society that recognize the power, poor decisions, and destruction caused by incompetent government officials. They seek to withhold their expertise in a strike hoping to crash the power and control of government bureaucrats and their regulations. Rand describes how easily private entities can be coopted by corrupt government officials as they try to maintain their businesses.

Who is John Galt? He has designed a motor that can function from static electricity. Ayn Rand based her characters upon individuals she observed. Perhaps Nikola Tesla was one such model, with his motor design and Tesla Coil. Tesla rejected the rigidity of the Edison labs which stifled his innovations.

John Galt is everyman who throws in the towel in exasperation rather than feed the beast.

I guess fleeing to Galt’s Gulch would be one way to self quarantine.

Doubt that those folks in Galt Gulch were throwing in the towel. There were in the main redirecting their efforts in a more rewarding direction.

I had never thought of comparing president Trump to John Galt. Let’s wait and then judge this comparison.

John Galt is everyman who throws in the towel in exasperation rather than feed the beast.

I wouldn't say that Galt throws the towel in "exasperation," but rather, he re-directs where the towel is thrown. He puts his intellect and his skills toward a more productive purpose, rather than allow the "moochers" of society suck the blood of his labor.

John Galt recognizes that the United States offers a cornucopia of abundance through its recognition of individual rights and the freedoms we have.

Trump recognizes that we have an abundance here, and seeks to protect our ability to maintain that abundance--and he doesn't play class warfare with it; he offers it to anyone who's willing to work and apply themselves. The cornucopia table can be extended.

The Bernie Sanders' of the world want to seize that cornucopia and re-direct it as they see fit. They want the abundance, without the work--let's face it, that's been his entire life.

The thing is, Sanders doesn't want the producers of the world to stop producing. That's their fatal flaw. They expect that high taxes will not change things, that the producers will still provide that cornucopia, still provide that abundance, even though much of it will be taken by people like Sanders.

You have to get in an airplane and dive through the terrain. Of course, it had to be in exactly the right spot.

Ayn Rand properly identified the main tactic being used by the left to evade debate these days. She called it the Arugment from Intimidation, but it covers the bigotry charge, virus scolds, climate bullies, etc...

"The essential characteristic of the Argument from Intimidation is its appeal to moral self-doubt and its reliance on the fear, guilt or ignorance of the victim. It is used in the form of an ultimatum demanding that the victim renounce a given idea without discussion, under threat of being considered morally unworthy. The pattern is always: “Only those who are evil (dishonest, heartless, insensitive, ignorant, etc.) can hold such an idea.”"

Didn’t really like this. Trump never dropped out. Not that this is bad but I don’t see any real equivalence except that he sees thing very differently than the self-appointed elite do. I don’t think the self-appointed elite even knew who John Galt was before the radio address.

Those fictional people in Galt’s Gulch were refusing to work as slaves and foster a system that meant to both enslave and destroy them with their willing participation.

That sure does sound like what the Left has in store for everyone from their friends and their supporters to enemies like us.
