Analysis: Two of the nation's most powerful executives are exhibiting nearly opposite leadership styles, policy instincts and public relations strategies.
One day, President Donald Trump told Americans that he bore no share of the blame for testing missteps that have increased the devastation wrought by coronavirus.
"I don't take responsibility at all," he said.
A few days later, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo welcomed accountability for the extraordinary measures his state has put in place to stop the spread of the virus, including the closure of "nonessential" businesses beginning at 8 p.m. Sunday.
"If someone wants to blame someone, blame me," Cuomo said this week. "There is no one else responsible for this decision.”
Even as they approach each other relatively cautiously, two of the nation's most powerful executives are exhibiting nearly opposite leadership styles, policy instincts and public relations strategies. That's happening against the backdrop of an ideological battle in Washington, in New York and around the country that pits those who care primarily about stopping the spread of the virus against those who say the cures will cause an economic calamity or a federal intervention in the private sector that dwarfs the damage of the disease.
"The daily press briefings out of Washington and Albany over the last week have provided a split screen in leadership. Whereas Governor Cuomo has been ruthlessly direct, faithful to the facts, and in command at all times, the president has lashed out at the media, sowed confusion,and shirked responsibility at every turn," said Lis Smith, a Democratic strategist who advised Cuomo's 2018 campaign.

I have seen this a couple of times and I don’t see why it’s an issue. Pompeo was talking about China and Trump added “shoulda let us know.” Just as he has been saying... China should have let us know about the virus when they knew it was a problem.
But of course, I’m not in grade school so understanding context comes a little easier for me...
For the past six weeks, Andrew Cuomo has behaved in an unusually focused, rational, and responsible way.
I certainly did not think he had it in him.
Clearly he is running for President, but that all goes back to Mario, Geraldine Ferraro, and just how much the ascent of the Irish with the Kennedy dynasty ground the gears of tri-state Italians, as every NYC boy knows.
When you know Andrew invented the “Vote for Cuomo, not the homo” campaign that doomed Ed Koch’s run for governor, you know any “wokeness” is an act designed to get all the fu**ed up leftists in NY to vote for him.
Watch carefully for signs of “moderation”. He certainly isn’t going to run a national election based on a seven-round magazine limit (for example).
He’s very dangerous.His strong executive actions to expand hospital capacity FAR beyond what any other governor has done are remarkable. If he accomplishes something in the next four weeks he will be more so.

What will his platform be? That I held New York States's unemployment rate to 15? 20%? 30%

If there is another candidate, it will be someone that is not a Gov.
He’s also laughably insane, and I’m not worried about him at all.
Cuomo can’t succeed because he isn’t trying to do the right thing by his state, rather he, as all demoncrats,is doing things to destroy his political enemies and strengthen his own party’s position. He is looking at politics not any crisis. In other words he’s flying dead blind.
Only in liberal LaLa land does Cuomo look good. For starters, Cuomo, taking “responsibility” for decisions he has made is a whole lot different than Trump accepting blame for decisions he didn’t make.
I’ve seen some of the “leadership style” Cuomo is being praised for by NBC in his briefings. He admits he tired, and, indeed, looks to me like a zombie watching a ping pong match. He regularly moves his head side to side, as if reading a teleprompter, even though the dialog is clearly not read. If this is “presidential material”, Joe and Bernie have no worries.
Trump leads, Cuomo flails like a panicked Mafia Don might.
Your cheap personal attack shows you still need to grow up. Liberals act like that as do progressives.

If the economy were failing on its own, maybe.
But everyone knows this is a Chinese virus; many are figuring out it is a bioweapon, but they're not allowed to say so yet.
The press (working for their pay from their Chinese Communist masters, and the billionaire oligarchs who built up China) are attacking Trump with everything they have. As is Congress.

I didn’t hear him say “You”. I heard him say, “Should’ve let us know.” I think it was directed at China.
If Cuomo is graded on a bell curve. Cuomo in comparison to other leftist democrats nearly sounds reasonable or at least not as unreasonable.
He, like all current Democrats, are scum. His party tried to set up the President of the US with a fake dossier, bogus Russian collusion, impeachment and finally trying to hang this virus on him.
Has there been ONE democrat [in any elected office position] that stood up and said, “THIS IS WRONG”

I work in a hospital and do the same thing where I can. I think it is extremely unhealthy to have that on 24x7.

The DNC convention is in mid-July. Although Biden has an apparently insurmountable lead in delegates, he's still nearly 800 votes short of a first-ballot majority. He's got 1201, and needs 1991.
If he gets 1991, he gets the nomination. But, if they postpone the primaries because of COVID, those delegates will not be picked through popular vote. Unless, the party institutes some mail-in procedure.
So, if there is no majority... a full floor fight becomes a forseeable possibility, maybe even a likelihood.
I was saying that after watching him, I would not be surprised to see Joe get “sick” and have them step up “FDR” Cuomo as the candidate.
Joe will make himself look silly with these Coronavirus Shadow Media events. I cannot imagine a world where that makes sense.
