European Union: The End?
Gatestone Institute ^ | March 21, 2020 | Judith Bergman

...In the past, EU member states have shown solidarity. According to its website, since its inception in 2001, the EU Civil Protection Mechanism has responded to more than 330 requests for assistance inside and outside the EU. In July 2018, for instance, when Sweden was facing widespread wildfires, primarily forest fires, EU member states sent firefighting assistance.

The coronavirus outbreak, however, is different from geographically isolated crises, such as forest fires in a member state that can be managed by pooling firefighting or other resources. When an entire continent is in the midst of a highly contagious virus epidemic, solidarity becomes a more complex issue. Every state inevitably considers whether it can afford to send facemasks and protective equipment that might be needed for its own citizens. In other words, every state considers its own national interest first. In the case of Italy's appeal for help, EU member states made their own interests their highest priority. This is classic state behavior and would not have caused any outrage prior to the establishment of the European Union.

What the coronavirus crisis reveals is that the member states of the European Union will revert to national interests when extreme circumstances call for it. While such revelations may not spell the immediate end of the European Union, they certainly raise questions about the point of an organization that pledges solidarity as a founding principle, but abandons that principle the moment it is most called for...

One good thing that will come out of this mess is finding out that a lot of things will be found to be useless.

Problem is, they already have that so-called “two-speed Europe” as a backup plan. A hard core to emerge, and to bully the rest of the recalcitrant former members into submission.

I can’t imagine one state in USA not helping another state. Does that ever happen?

As it should be. Perhaps one good result of the Coronavirus will be the breakup of the EU.

I boycott everything from Vermont, everything! Any state that would elect a full blown rabid communist to the senate does not deserve to be in the union. I would not help them if they were starving. spit.

EU member states made their own interests their highest priority. This is classic state behavior and would not have caused any outrage prior to the establishment of the European Union.

What the coronavirus crisis reveals is that the member states of the European Union will revert to national interests when extreme circumstances call for it.

This is basic human nature survival and care/love for our families and close friends.

This is how our DNA survived the challenges over the eons.

That DNA and other close personal feelings emerge and survives when borders are erased by the elites.

I posted yesterday about how my wife got long phone calls from her siblings and their spouses yesterday, starting early in the morning. They wanted to know if we were okay and how we were handling Our Shelter In Place.

I got texts and sent texts to my family members nearby and across country. The texts covered the same grounds as as my wife’s phone calls. She and I talked to our younger family members out here.

My wife has a couple
of very close friends at our church. One is like a sister, and they texted and spent a lot of time on the phone.

This morning my wife completed her phone calls to random assigned church members. All were glad to talk to her and no
one had any problems.

A couple of hours later, some newer church friends called to chat and see how we were doing.

2 neighbors called to see if we were okay and if we needed anything.

If the Euros called and asked for help, they would be out of luck.

I doubt if our Euro cousins are any different than we yanks are. Help and sympathy begins with our family and friends, not some ally picked by the elites in another country.

Well, yes, but what the rest of the article reveals is that the EU is completely deaf to constituent state considerations when they conflict with its overall ideological immigration policies. It isn't the states that are opting out of the EU, it's the EU that has better things to do than opt into its states. That has been the problem all along with this issue and absolutely no one in Brussels appears to consider it worthy of consideration.

Rarely does one state ask another for assistance. Individuals & organizations from one state help people in other states. And the big on is, the federal government helps states using tax dollars from all states. You really have to go back to the time in our country when we identified ourselves, that is entire populations of states, as citizens of a state vs. citizen of the US. That would be 100 plus years ago, and definitely before the war of northern aggression. I would for example be a Pennsylvania and identify that way. You would be North Carolinian (assuming from you name.) And as such your state would not help Pennsylvanians, because we're damned Yankees. On the other hand, your state would gladly help Virginians. It was well after reconstruction that the nation as a whole identified as Americans, with the south taking the longest. (By the way, my family is from NC, so I'd help you.)
