An employee of the biotech company at the center of the COVID-19 outbreak in Massachusetts is being criminally investigated after she defied the presidents travel ban and went to China. Of the 328 confirmed cases of the disease in Massachusetts, 30 percent of them are linked back to Cambridge-based Biogen after several employees at a conference held by the company at the Marriott Long Wharf tested positive for the virus and traveled across the country, further spreading the disease.
Belmont native Jie Li is being accused of knowing she was sick and of taking medication to bring down her fever in order to fly under the radar so she could travel to one of the countries under President Trumps travel ban. While Li was not at the conference, workers say she had contact with people at the meeting and then traveled outside the country.
On Thursday, Chinese officials said for the first time since the outbreak began, they have had no new domestic cases but that doesnt mean they havent had any imported cases.
Biogen representatives say that is just one of the reasons why Li, a statistician, was terminated by the company. Multiple reports by Chinese media say Li refused to disclose her exposure to the novel coronavirus to her airline and covered up her fever with drugs.

I have to imagine the penalties for this type of behavior are much more harsh in China than the United States.
Poor decision by Ms Li.
Something is up with this story. She didn’t inform Biogen that she was traveling to China. She all of sudden left in a hurry to country she hasn’t lived in for years.
I wonder if she is the same Jie Li as one of the authors of this paper.

Ames Iowa? That’s interesting. Is she associated with the college there?
Chinese spy spreads disease, lies and then dies.

The Biogen conference at the Marriott Long Wharf was 2/24-2/27. I stayed at this hotel 4 days later. Ive tried to find out if any hotel employees ever got sick but no one is sharing info. They kept the hotel open over week after knowing about the problem.
Can any Chinese Nationals employed in sensitive USA industries be trusted? More so if they still have family in China that the Commie Government can put the screws too for failure to “gain intelligence”. Interesting times.
If she’s Chinese, let them decide what to do with her.
Even if this were totally innocent, it gives the communist government of China an excuse to accuse the US of trying to spread the virus for a second round.
She is 37 and this paper was published in 2006 which means she would have been 23 at the time. Maybe but Jie Li is a very common name in China.

They all are. When China send students to the USA (and pays for it) the students become owned. They are required to spy. ALL of them. I worked with one and caught her in the act when I worked at NASA. Send them all the hell home.
I read somewhere that the Chinese media is touting the Party’s ability to control the disease and effect cures (presumably with quinine). This lady probably went back because she believed the bug was under control in China, and figured it would be no trouble for them to treat her problem.
The Chinese government is making a big deal of this because it’s lying about the disease not being a problem in China. They are still getting new cases. They’re just telling “local” officials not to report them.

Unless she is working for the PLA in which case she might get a medal?
She wasn’t patient zero @ Biogen. It was someone who had traveled from Italy to attend the conference.
Could she be a Freeper rebelling against this “nonsense to bring Trump down”, which is “no worse than the flu”, and is “needless hysteria”?
If this were data...it could all be emailed to some Hong Kong residence.
She probably was carrying a sample of something.
Which begs the question:
Was she carrying a sample of something there, or bringing a sample of something back...
nvrmnd
The initial cluster in the city came from employees that went to that Biogen conference.
Ok thank you.
