The National Guard in California has been put on 'alert' and the governor has asked to use the Navy's hospital boat as it's predicted more than 60,000 homeless people could become ill with the coronavirus over the next eight weeks, badly straining the healthcare system.
California, the nation's most populous state, has also been among the hardest hit by the coronavirus outbreak, with 892 confirmed cases as of Wednesday, and at least 17 fatalities have been reported.
With San Francisco on lockdown for three weeks and six Bay Area counties being told to shelter-in-place, supermarket shelves have been emptied as panic buyers elsewhere prepare to bunker down.
Now Governor Gavin Newsom is just one step away from activating the 22,000 National Guard members who are relied upon in natural disasters such as wildfires and earthquakes.

I think the tacit assumption here is that the homeless are like ordinary people but they don’t have homes. They are, instead, mostly mentally ill or drug and alcohol adducted. They are not people who, in general, can make rational decisions about their own safety and the safety of others.
They can be dangerous at the best of times. But as infected people they become doubly dangerous. It would not be safe to work with or around them. I have seen them spit and blow snot on people. Along with their other problems they do not have a high degree of socialization.
Convert all of those empty marine containers to small homes for the homeless.
Build an encampment for homeless in the southern Central Valley, perhaps near Barstow. Land is cheaper there, heat will kill viruses, and less chance of infecting city dwellers. Then have the National Guard evacuate and transport all homeless there.

A friend of mine once told me a story about a guy who was known all around the area with a shopping cart. Had plenty of money because he owned some parking lots or parking garages. had big wad of bills all the time. Wanted to live under a bridge. Family couldnt do anything. She thought he was on the schizo scale
Stop wasting our money on schemes like this. Expedite the availability of hydroxychloroquine instead.
If this jerk eliminated the homelessness, he wouldn’t have this dilemma.

Why would you want to punish Barstow? It’s likely one of the Inland conservative counties.
At the homeless stay where the Liberals are, they’re the ones that want them.
The homeless vagrants in California do not want to live in Barstow. California bums are demanding ocean view properties.

During the mid-1960s while in high school, there was a "bum" called 'Pops' that went around the school and neighborhood with a shopping cart, collecting bottles and cans. We had an open campus so during breaks and lunch we'd give him bottles. Poorly dressed with dirty clothes. We felt sorry for him and thought he was homeless. Soon we found out he was extremely rich but nutty.

They won’t show up, and couldn’t work, even if they did.
How about using cruise ships.
The compassion of the California government is stunning.
For the fetuses they torture & kill not so much but the homeless must be able to live on your property, poop on the streets and congregate in front of your retail establishment.
Now they must be provided beach huts, trailers, hotel rooms. The homeless don’t take to being corralled and many are down right anti social. The do-gooders may be in for quite a reality check.

My experience at the local soup kitchen is homeless almost always correlates with substance abuse and/or mental illness.
People that are very difficult to help, especially if they’ve been in this category for many years.
