I post this because it's news and it is an example of what President Trump brings as president - out of the box thinking and knowledge and connections to businesses that can help with what's not been considered. In this case to address the potential dearth of hospital beds that the media is hyping hard.
I also want to point out that there is a law passed in 2006 that calls for planning and preparedness for pandemics and was meant to make sure that there will be enough resources in the event of such an epidemic.
It is called PAHPA. The HHS and CDC are mainly tasked with this preparedness. There is an undersecretary in HHS called Assistent Secretary for Preparedness. That office is called ASPR. Nicole Lurie held that position for a long time under Obama and Trump. I am not sure who the current ASPR head is.
Billions in funding have been outlayed over 14 years to prepare for such a contingency as may happen now.
How is there not a plan in place and resources allocated and stockpiled? What did they do with the funds if they haven't in fact prepared for this?
This was their one job.
Why does President Trump need to come up with novel plans ad hoc when a real life event rakes place?

Is he going to send them around the world to help other countries? I certainly don’t see a need for them here. We have plenty available beds at this point. And if those fill up, it seems obvious land based facilities would be much more efficient. There are millions of beds available in hotels.

Yup. Hospitals love staph infections. According to government figures they make an extra 48,000 dollars off of every patient and they have no liability. Sweet.

Has anyone heard about am idea to commandeer Hotels for corona patient care?
I haven’t yet, but I’m not going to assume it hasn’t been planned for yet.
The hotel and hospitality industry has been hit hard and much is vacant.
Steps would have to be taken to modify the environmental controls in these locations, but tell me how you can get less different than the bed and care facilities in a hospital than a hotel. Other modifications to the rooms besides environmental and sterilization controls would obviously be the patient care appliances temporary modifications to support the patient diagnostics telemetry.
What I don’t understand is houe Korea, etc., can still be so fat ahead of us in testing.
Why couldn’t we just have copied them and got whatever manufacturing cranked up? I take it Fauci and screwed us over by not going for the WHO approved test and easting wreks that way. Bit still? So far per capita behind Germany and many other Asian, European and Middle Eastern countries. That is the one response that people in the street are puzzled about and angry over.
