CANTON, Mich. (WXYZ) — Canton police say a person was attempting to sell toilet tissue at $60 a case in a parking lot.

The incident happened Wednesday morning in a Meijer's parking lot. This example of price gouging comes after Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed an order for tougher restrictions on businesses trying to price gouge shoppers during the coronavirus outbreak.

The man who capture video of the absorbently priced tissue sale said he posted the image to social media were it was shared over 1000 times.

Mike Arcuragi, the man who took the photo, says it’s ridiculous people are trying to take advantage of others in a time when people need to be helping one another.

"I just wish people would calm down and quit hoarding and lets live life, we’ll get over this," he said.

It's unclear at this time what repercussions, if any, the person faced.

Good points.

Like it or not - price gouging is illegal. It’s Black Market profiteering.

And when this sort of stuff happens - it inevitably leads to looting, robbing and violence.

Most people I see on this thread are likely more worried about a tyrannical government overstepping its bounds over something

Then they're on the wrong thread/story, as this story is about someone hoarding products to take advantage of other Americans, all while screwing the store owners who pay rent/taxes for their businesses/parking lot he was squatting on.

I went to pick up some flour. The warehouse store I usually get it from is on reduced hours, so it was closed when I got there.

The other stores I visited were sold out, but for one lonely 5 LB bag of dark rye flour sitting alone on a dusty shelf, surrounded by memories of its neighbors and the occasional tumbleweed...

Jerry Clower, an American original!

I cook, sew, raise a garden, can and freeze produce, can bake a cake and make pretty good corn bread.
The one thing I can NOT do is bake biscuits. Biscuits are my kryptonite.

My momma tried for years to help me bake biscuits. Every time I tried she gave me a look like I had brought something smelly and disgusting from the outhouse.

My wife tried for years to help me bake biscuits. Every attempt made her look at me like I brought something smelly and disgusting from the bathroom.
I gave up.

Since my wife passed its been the canned variety for me.

And I love Kipling. :)

You are apparently emotional about this, so I am going to let you be. No use hashing it out further.

“I advised him to maintain his budget and bank the rest.”

Best advice ever.
The panic will blow over and he will have a nice wad of cash to show for it.

“The fast-moving, nervous customers with bug eyes looking like a deer in the headlights scampering around stores....”

The stores are full of them. Some clearly buying just to be buying.
I went to our smallish local Kroger this morning and people were standing in line a half hour before the store opened.
One man rushed to the paper aisle and grabbed 3 super mega packages of toilet paper and 3 super mega pkgs of paper towels. Insane.

Saw my great uncle there.
He was born in 1927 and remembers the depression and WW2. He said he’s never seen this level of hoarding and stupidity in his life.

White hockey pucks would have been considered a success for me. Both my mom and wife sat and watched me and neither one could figure out what was wrong.
A chapter of my life I hate thinking about.

Probably used ‘all purpose flour’ - No baking powder in it, so biscuits don’t rise................

Just to clarify your position, you would have no problem with all the major market chains deciding to triple the costs of all their products due to the temporary shortages, no matter what the hardship would be to low income and the elderly on small fixed incomes. Am I right?

And you don't find that ethically and morally reprehensible to take advantage of a natural disaster just to profit from the hardships of your customers?

Sorry. You came across as non-rational and I attributed that to your emotion.
